Wincent, Here is a way to prove yourself!!

Post the review now, but post it encrypted with PGP. Then release the Key on the 24th!

You get to keep your mouth shut, and your credibility...

Didn't you post this in the "Wincent claims to have retail version now... " thread?

Ya, but I figured he "might" actualy see it here...

(Im sure he has better things to do than read all the "I hate Wincent" posts in the other thread...)

I have liked his reviews so far, and would realy like to see him manage to get out of this one...

Alex, that's an EXCELLENT idea! And maybe it could generate a frenzied PGP cracking effort in the next seven days as well!
I abused my signature until she cried.

Somehow, I don't think he'll take up the challenge. Call it intuition .

yeah, that is a great idea!! assuming that he really does have it, he would gain his credibilty back 150% of what it was before he did this, and then all the naysayers would be eating their words...

This is the fault of all those people hoping for a suprise when they get theyr boxes, and partly wincents for telling us that they were going to be posting a review.

What about all the people who needed to know if it was crap or not before buying?

Another way to prove he is legit (I think he probably is) is to just post a pic of the box and the contents of the box (from a distance that you can see what they are, but can't see details). Show the box, the CD itself, the paperwok that comes with it... etc. If the look and feel and inventory of those items all matches the boxes that we all see a few days later, you know he had the real thing.

These are both really excellent ideas.
I don't know that he has it, but I think if he wants to prove that he wasn't lying these would surely do it. (Gametes: roots for the good guy if he's honest; Gametes: doesn't care about the bad guy if he's lying)
C'mon wincent! Show us you did it for a reason other than sadism.

He Takes the offer!!!

"We intend to follow the advice that's been given on the various forums out there and publish our review in encrypted form but publicly available on this site, with the passphrase required to decrypt the write-up only being released on 24 March (or 21 March, depending on what gets revealed to the public on that day)."

Looks really short. Something like "bummer, 4k78 is GM after all"

What you read in that pgp file is not going to blow your mind. It's just a simple summary of the facts. A week from now no-one will give a damn about all this silly debate.

Quoted from wincent himself on his forums.

For real; I can't beleive it's that short.
Actually...

The encoded final review - 2000 chars
k78 review - 2000 words
Follow-up - 3000
c4k46 part 1 - 1200
part 2 - 2100
part 3 - 1900

It could just be that he has only posted the first page of his review!

This Wincent/Leonard-story is crazy! I don't care what they're saying - we have only 6 days (close to 5 here ) left.

Wait and see and don't get pissed before!

It's not that short. PGP compresses files before encrypting them (zip, I think). Human-readable text compresses very well, because there's lots of redundancy (repeated words, very limited character set, etc.).

the first phase of encryption is compression. So the text is probably at least 4000 characters. And not using any big words, that could be one hell of an essay!

Wait to go in not reading my whole post there.
My point was that it was compressed or divided.

I'm sorry, but how does PGP work? I imagine the idea behind using PGP was to get people using it...so...what do I do, what do I download. What is a key - do we all have personal keys? does this have something to do with the Keychain (just joking there!)

Thanks

Hmm..it downloaded a 13K file for me; that can't be right! Especially considering that StuffIt won't touch it with a 10-foot-pole.
