I placed my Cube order last Thursday. Apple called me today informing me that they will not ship my Cube for another 6 weeks. I decided to cancel out my order (they had already charged my credit card and I didn't want to pay $1800 for a product I wouldn't see for another 1.5 months).

Hopefully I can get a refurbished one next week.

Hmmm. Six weeks...that's right about the time any product announced at MWNY would start to ship. Sounds to me like Apple isn't making any more Cubes so they couldn't fill your order and were going to offer you to change to the new product announced at MacWorld...although they couldn't do this yet since it doesn't exist, officially. Did I say it doesn't exist, I meant they don't exist, yet. ;-)

I also ordered a Cube ... 500MHz, 60Gig, Radeon ... last Saturday (6/30).

Like every other prospective "new owner", I got The Call on phone
from Apple rep saying to confirm order by 7/13, at which time shipment
will take another 6 weeks ... or the order will be "deactivated".

Funny thing, when order was placed, I also ordered the 17" LCD monitor
because I was told they would be shipped together.

Well, the monitor is already on the truck from Sacremento, and I have to
wait until September to hook it up to anything. Rats !!

Unlike some others, I'm stubborn about getting ONLY the 500MHz processor,
which was only available thru Apple Store. So, I'm committing to wait
the 6 weeks + 10 days.

CONCERN: Apple says that they WILL fulfill my Order. But, does anyone
know whether, in the past, if Apple promised to fulfill Orders
and then decided NOT to fulfill them later.

This would leave me empty-handed, as the scant availability of
Cube 450MHz still available at stores will be gone soon.

Anyone have a feel for this ... Apple breaking their promise build my Cube?

Hey, your Cube 500/128/30 is on sale over at Smalldog for 1499.00!

Get 'em while you can, boys and girls, this is a pretty damn hot deal, if'n you ask me.

Cool .... very cool suggestion. I called Smalldog and snapped up
a 500MHz, 60Gig 256K, CDRW ... when it arrives to their place on
July 9th.

Yes, it is "refurbished", but that should be ok. Gotta chance it.

Also, I called Apple, and they cannot even state in writing that
my Cube will get built. The 6-week latency is very weird. I'll
let my order with Apple stay active for a while, even after I
pick up the "refurbished" Cube from SmallDog.

thanks for the tip !!!

Hey, you guys are great! Thanks for the tip on Smalldog! I did what pukahead did, and placed an order for a 500/128/60 Cube with the GeForce2 card and a CDRW drive in it for a price of $1929. I'll add an Airport card and increase the memory when I get it so that I have at least 512 Mgs of ram.

BTW, it is factory refurbished, and comes with a full year factory warranty. Perhaps Smalldog got a deal on those 3500 Cubes that Apple repurchased from CompUSA. That would explain the fact that the Cube has the 1 yr. factory warranty, and not just a 90 day Smalldog warranty as one might expect on refurbished goods.
