Honestly I didn't like the song that much... seemed kinda dragged out and long.

There is only one country song I like:
The Devil Went Down to Georgia

I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

steveedge, from this page on your website, which song do you think is your best. I'll admit some of your music intrigues me, but most of it seems to lack... "polish". It seems unfinished and has a little too much reverb to it.

Sorry I disagree. I like Reverb. I guess it's a matter of taste.
I'm not a country musician...They asked to feature me though so I said ok. Is there an echo in here ?
Pro producers & artist from all over the country have complimented me on the sound quality of my songs which is a FACT I am quite proud of. i like their conclusion better than yours.
Made on a Mac mini by the way.
"Surfin" has sold the most on i Tunes and several songs are getting radio play...so I feel fine.
I guess those station program directors like "unpolished" and "unfinished".
Charleston smells fine to me. So does Biloxi, and Catalina but what's the point ? I'm in Atlanta.
And lastly, You can't please all the people all the time....
Ok, then I don't like it. No vote for you! No matter if you made it on a Mac Mini or a TRS80. No VOTE!!!

Oh boy, I don't know if I should laugh or cry...
I guess you should have never asked this question in thge Lounge. So far, you have gotten great treatment. But just wait, this place can be much harsher...

Might as well have just said
"Vote for Me because I use a Mac even though you don't like my music and I don't care if you do."
I was just commenting that perhaps you might have another song or specific song to share that you wanted to promote. At least I gave you a listen.

Nah, it all sucks. Sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. Badly written lyrics, and badly played instruments cannot be improved, no matter how cheap of a Mac was used in its production.

Of course, net gain: 0, but that doesn't seem to normally prevent us from being doused with his brainless testosterone.
What does testosterone actually look like? Is it a fluid?

I agree. From this point on, I will try to not say a single thing more about him or Kevin. This would be a lot easier if they would do the same for me, but I'll do my part and see what happens.

You'll never make it in the music business with that kind of attitude.

I clicked on a few of those samples and the only thing I can say is "woo hoo". Because if that's the kind of nocomment they're letting on iTunes these days my next album's gonna propel me to ultra-stardom. Jessica Alba, here I come.
I'm in a good mood and nobody is paying me for it, so I won't comment on the music or production itself. Those who know me can guess my response already.

I know a guy that bought a phaser pedal. And he'd use it in EVERYTHING. On FULL too because he like the way it sounded. Replace phaser with echo and reverb and you get...

It's much easier to be a harsh critic of the creative work of others than it is to come up with your own.
Everybody has to start someplace, and we all need encouragement. Some people here need to start showing up at "How to Not be a Dick 101". These sorts of comments are very destructive, and can profoundly impact an artist in a very negative way if taken seriously. It is easy to say "well don't take it seriously", but even easier to not make these sort of hurtful comments to begin with, since there are no guarantees that the recipient won't not what was said seriously.
Do any of you believe in karma?
What's funny to me is that the loudest armchair critics never submit their own work for public scrutiny. Jealousy?

I believe some people don't like ANY criticisms what-so-ever and sometimes are a bit thin skinned. I think he was posting him here to get praised and have people tell him how good it was. He got some valid criticism and got all mad about it, and went off on people.
If he acts like that in the music business he will NEVER make it. You HAVE to learn to take criticism. And take it well. Even learn from it.
When I first started playing guitar after about 2 years I learned how to play "Eruption" by VanHalen so I though I was this shizniz. No one could tell me how to play, I knew it all.
Well one day a guitar instructor attempted to humble me a bit (and he did) by offering me to use his studio for a few minutes to record me playing.
When I heard the recording back, I was HORRIBLY out of time, It was a hard lesson to learn. I immediately went out and bought a metronome and started practicing and formed a band to practice with.
Had it not been for that lesson, (and he was snarky about it) I would probably still not play in time properly. I had a great ear, and knowledge of theory, but because I was at the time a bedroom player, I had no real sense of rhythm or time.

Well, I could tell the guy exactly where he's going wrong and offer advice to correct those wrongs, but by the looks of the responses he's posted he's a bit of an arse who won't take any notice anyways. I don't deal with arses in relation to music unless I'm being paid a great deal of money. With a cake and groupies rider.
As for those targeting RR as being a bit of an arse for offering comment, well, I've heard something RR has recorded and it's classes better than anything on this page, even with the limited equipment he did it with. Like most things RR turns his hand to (beer making, woodwork, photography), it had an innate quality to it. So, in my opinion, RR is perfectly qualified to talk about recording music.

It makes absolutely no difference whether you think his music is wonderful or not-so-wonderful. If you look at the early work of most every artist or creative person, it is usually quite mediocre at best. This is just a part of the process. People don't wake up and get out of bed great.
Those had succeed to so with a lot of encouragement, not with these sorts of comments.
I often feel like I'm sort of encouraging a dog to not eat its own poop around here, knowing that it probably will anyway. What is really gained by this sort of harsh criticism?
I'm not much for making rules around here, but if any were to made I'd be for one that discourages people from saying destructive things about the creative work of others. Just not cool, at all.

I think artists get too much praise for their work. Most art -- music, paintings, sculpture, etc. -- is crap. Total crap, devoid of talent, insight, depth, or technical skill. Most people, instructors included, simply heap praise on their students and friends, allowing them to wallow in acclaimed mediocrity.
Not commenting on this guy specifically. I didn't even listing to his stuff. Just a general commentary.

The criticism probably wouldn't have been nearly as harsh if he didn't get so snotty with Railroader over what was a rather innocuous comment.
EDIT: There's really no point in keeping this open since the OP edited out his posts.
