What are the areas that your A4 device felt too slow for you?
Was it improved in your A5 device?

What about app load speed. I personally feel that VoIP apps (all of them) load way too slowly (5 seconds or more).

Hmmm...

TBH, the processor improvement is barely noticeable compared to the RAM improvement. If I had to single out what's slow in the 1st gen model, it would be "reloading things which should be cached".

I don't own the iPad original, but when I played with it pre-iOS 4.3, page rendering seemed slow to me. I do have the iPhone 4, and page rendering seems slow on that too.

I look forward to see how much fast page rendering will be on the iPad 2.

But yeah, that "reloading things which should be cashed" is really annoying.

I was mainly using a 1GHz G4 previous to my iPad, so to me page renders are insanely fast.

Should I assume that
(0) no one here owns or ordered an iPad 2
(1) no one here owns an iPad 2
(2) no one is interested in quantifying speed
(3) no one is interested in reporting quantified speed
(4) no one is interested in helping me personally

You want us to quantify speed? Using what benchmarking app?

I own an iPad 2 and owned an iPad 1. The iPad 2 is significantly faster. I don't use voip apps. Only place I thought the iPad 1 was deficient was really Safari, and that has seen a big improvement.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I have had mine since saturday.
The ares that I see a speed difference is in iBooks, where I have lots of PDF's and webpages.
It is "zippier" overall, but I have not see blazing speed yet.

subego, thank you for your informative datapoint

PDF performance is nice, specially if your work depends on referring to PDF'd books and drawings and finding stuff on them. Have you tried CAD engineering drawings on it?

Can anyone shed light on slow-loading apps that become significantly fast-loading on the iPad 2?

In my experiences, anything that requires a bit more graphics horsepower loads significantly faster.
iCreate mag app was a hog, crashed a lot and had render issues. Not it is really really fast.
Zinio, iBooks, run much faster...
the real HD racing 2 is amazing on a side note

Do you see a significant improvement in the loading speed of VOIP apps with an iPad 2, compared to that of an A4 device?

No. I don't have an A5 device, but on A4 devices, all VoIP apps load horribly slowly (5 seconds or more).

I use the Acrobits Softphone found here:

Acrobits Softphone - SIP phone for VoIP calls for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

I leave it running in the background on my iPod Touch 4G. When I receive an incoming call, it takes a couple of seconds to be the running up in the foreground.

I have not had the opportunity to try this app on an iPad 2. But I'm confident that, if I were to try it on an iPad 2, I would not need to leave it running in the background, and it should open instantly.

I'm also optimistic that the same will be true with the iPod Touch 5G with the A5.

Surfing the web is way faster then on my 2008 MacBook. On speed tests the iPad 2 blows it away. It must have a much better antenna. It also renders pages way better.

As for everything else, all I can compare it to is my iPhone 3GS, and the iPad 2 makes the iPhone feel like a real slug.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

The iPad 2 uses flash for storage which, like the new MacBook Air, renders pages in Safari much faster than your 2008 MacBook. Of course, if you were to install an SSD into your 2008 MacBook, you would be amazed at the speed that your three-year-old MacBook would achieve.

The A5 processor allows the iPad 2 to perform much quicker and more efficiently than your iPhone 3GS.

I don't think the type of hard drive you have has any effect on page rendering speed.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I suspect what you're noticing is the absence of Flash (the Adobe plug-in, not flash memory).
