Hey thanx, Sarc.
Earlier today someone posted this on the Spymac forums, but it wasn't near this kind of quality.
Very slick welcome vid, the music fits the vid near perfectly. Well done, Apple.
I hope that we get to see a screensaver based on this vid...less the words of course.

It reminds me of the introduction to Black and White (the game).

It's a great song, and if anyone's curious, it's called:
"Ocean Air" by dZihan & Kamien. (Freaks & Icosn album)
...I liked Apple's last choice for music, too:
"Sofa Rockers" by the Sofa Surfers, remixed by Richard Dorfmeister. (K&D Sessions)

no problem, had to reencode it using MPEG4, original version I posted (16MB) was even better looking, but had to reduce it to 8MB (running low on hosting space )
the music sync could be my fault, I edited it very ... roughly .. to say the least
hope everyone likes it
BTW. I won't host it for too long, since I don't know how legal it is, legal, almost everyone has posted sreenshots though, so I don't think this is much more.

Dude, that intro is awesome!
It just makes you NOT want to register and reboot to watch it over again!

It just occurred to me, how awesome would it be to watch an intro video like that while OS X is loading!
It would just be like loading a game in a Playstation 2 and watching the CGI effects before the game starts!
Wicked.

You used to be able to do that in System 7.5 and up. Put a QT movie in the System Folder, call it "Startup movie.mov" (or similar, can't really remember) and it'll play when Quicktime loads. Unfortunately, the rest of the startup procedure had to wait for the movie to finish, but no need for that now with OS X's PMT.

To kick things up a notch, it shouldn't be a movie, but instead a dynamic animation. Instead of having the welcome messages, you can have status messages such as "Welcome to Macintosh", "Starting Networking", "Starting Aqua", etc. etc.

Now that is an idea worth the countless hours hours researching how to pull it off. Soon as i track my tech doc on X's loading sequence then check that it isn't changed in Panther I'll see how possible this is. Unfortunately no one's OS X takes as long to load as that movie does to play so a seamless blend to a login screen would be necessary too. And unfortunately that sort of functionality requires Apple or copious amounts of help and info from them.

In case some of you are thinking what I'm thinking. Here's how to turn this "Welcome to Macintosh" video into a Screensaver. Get xbMovieMaker and simply drop the movie onto it. In 10-15 seconds you should have your screensaver.
Here is a GREAT SITE for some Apple Quicktime Ads. I'm downloading these and turning them into screensavers! WooHoo!!

It looks a lot like the Flocks screensaver ,but with more Aqualicious flavor. That would be a nice addition to the screensavers, though it doesn't look like they are planning on adding it like at this point.

Maybe something sort of how KDE starts up would look good on OS X.

What I hate is that there's still no way to bypass that movie during the set-up process. In a lab situation, it eats up precious seconds.

Why aren't you distributing a system that is already setup in a lab?

Yup. No lab with any sense would be deployed by doing a separate, from-scratch install of everything on each machine!
Also, what lab admin wouldn't copy the restore disc, so that all the machines can be done more-or-less at once?

It was recompressed to MPEG-4 by Sarc. Your iMac will probably be able to play the real version that comes with Panther.

most requests for the video came from this forum (9xxx), some came from direct URL request (1xxx), and one came from http://dgate4.apple.com/sitewatch/sites.php.

ah. that is interesting, Apple obviously seems to like Austrian Music (dZihan&Kamien, Sofa Surfers, Kruder & Dorfmeister are all from Vienna). So let's bring the iTunes Music Store to Austria in return, ey?

Probably straight after you have installed it and the registration process begins. It's just like in Jaguar.

If it is anything like Jaguar, the path is:
System/Library/Core Services/Setup Assistant/Contents/Resources/
You can find the soundtrack (intro-sound.aiff), but I can't see any movie sequence in there.

sorry for the late reply ...
the audio I believe is inside the package of the setup assistant,
the video track I think is in the Setup Assistant framework ...
I joined the two using quicktime pro, and then reencoded into MPEG4, both audio and video
cheers
