I've extensively customized my Standard toolbar in Word (Office 2004) and I'd like to transfer this layout to my home computer, if possible. Is there some simple way of doing this? Or do I have to manually, step-by-step, re-customize the toolbar on my home computer. I'm hoping there's a file or something that I can just import/export.

Thanks

You may be able to copy the ~/Library/Preferences/Office folder to the same path on your home computer and keep the toolbar settings.

Just a quick point of clarification: When you say that I "may be able to" does that mean that this is just a shot in the dark? Or is this rather a colloquial way of saying that this is how it's done? If it's the former, I'm reluctant to try.

There is no ~/Library/Preferences/Office folder.

There *IS* a ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ folder

There is also a ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Word.plist file

Either one or the other is responsible for remembering your toolbar settings.

Copy them, take them home, and while no Microsoft applications are running, replace either one (I'd try the .plist file first) - you obviously don't want to delete the old one before you know the new one does the trick, so just drag the old one to your desktop, or leave it in place and rename it with a .old ending or something: You can easily switch back that way.

I'm saying I think it will work, based on my own knowledge of these things, but am making no guarantees since I have never tried it myself. There is no harm in trying this method.

Thanks. Got my thoughts mixed.

It *will* work.

Just not with an imaginary folder.
