Every time I turn on my macbook either from sleep mode or being completely shut off the hard drive makes a loud noise. It does not seem to effect my macbook in any way but I find it odd that it is doing this and I fear that this could be a sign of a future problem. Im not even 100% sure if its the hard drive that doing it but it sounds like its coming from my hard drive. Has anyone else experience this problem or know what could be causing this sound. Thanks

When I wake my MacBook from sleep or boot it, the superdrive spins. That Is most likely the case here, but backup all of your data for good measure.
Signature depreciated.

I think your right, it is my combo-drive making the noise. It should not be going it though so could having the drive spin cause any problems?

All Apple machines with slot-in optical drives make that noise when woken up or booted.

At least, every single one I've seen in the last eight years, AFAICR.

I have been using Apple computers for years and never had it be this loud. All Slot-in drives do make a noise but it very quiet compared to my MacBook. Thats why I posted this because I know there is something wrong. It should not be this loud.

I just got my first MacBook today. The combo drive does make a loud noise when both waking and powering on.

At least since the May '07 revision, the drive noise has been rather startling. Not much louder than before, but where mine (Nov. 06) would give a two-part "whizz-whizzap", the newer models give a single, quick "whizzAP".

Completely normal.
