The subtitle to this thread is "what happens when you put emoji in a thread title?"

Hmmm...I wonder what the reason is that I see it in the Firefox title bar (as well as in the email alert I got for this thread in Mail.app) but I don't see it in the Firefox tab or in the body of the thread itself?

I also use FF (on Windows) right now, and my experience is the exact opposite of yours: I don't see the emoji in the title bar (just a box), but I see it on the tab and I see it in the content. Most likely there is something freaky going on with finding replacement fonts.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I see what Thorzdad sees.
TenFourFox 17 on an iMac G5.
FASCINATING.

What fonts do people have set in FIrefox? I currently have Arial Unicode set as my default for everything (other than serif).

Using Android 4.22, I see an Android head with panicked expression on his face and sweat dripping down his brow... or maybe oil, because it has streaks.

I see it in FF 20.0.1 and I see it in iCab 5.0.5
Font settings for FF, I guess these are default.

Admit it - you just wanted me to screenshot your post:
I had never heard of emoji before seeing this thread earlier today, and by luck happened to be browsing using a Nexus 7 rather than my old ass iMac using 10.58 that doesn't have the font installed. I did a Google Image Search, and found a list of Android emoji icons (the one above is in the third row down, third from the right):

Actually, it sounded too similar to the Apple emoji. Which now I realize is intentional (not that it's trying to copy Apple, but copy the standard set of emoji).
