The " app wont open from a private developer"..
I go to system prefs, security and click the open anyway button, never works. Am I doing something wrong?

What are you doing in System Prefs?
If double-clicking doesn't open it, just click on the app once to highlight it in the Finder. Then go to File menu -> Open. Afterwards, double-clicking should work.

Thanks, system prefs privacy has a button there just for this purpose. Will hold onto your notes for next time. Have you tried that system pref?

Sys Prefs -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy (tab): there is a list of apps allowed to control the computer. That isn't the same as launching unsigned apps.
Sys Prefs -> Security & Privacy -> General (tab): this does have a selector for what apps to allow to launch. "App Store" or "Store + registered developers". There used to be a 3rd choice "Apps from anywhere" but this choice was removed in 10.11 and later.

Did not understand a word sorry.
I mean, there is button right there that appears, and says, "Allow anyway".
It's there just for that reason, and I'm saying I click it, and it does not work, the new app (which is not recognized by app store, but is still trustworthy", does not open.

The system prefs privacy tab has three options:
"Allow apps downloaded from:
• Mac App Store
• Mac App Store and identified developers
• Anywhere"
In Sierra, the third option has been removed.
There is NO button that says "Allow anyway".
If you select "Anywhere", you have to CLOSE THE SYSTEM PREFERENCE before the change goes into effect. After that, it will work.

Now I'm changing to anywhere to get the download to work, but what I'm saying is the No, allow anyway button is not working.

Could you post a picture of this "allow anyway" button / menu / preference pane / other? It's not ringing a bell for us.

Thanks. I've never seen that before, probably because I've always used the "Anywhere" option.
Since migrating to Sierra, I've also used Quarantino to release trusted apps from quarantine. Apple took away a choice from me, so I routinely unlock trusted 3rd party apps to prevent the nagging and disobedience.

Quarantino on MacUpdate or its' own page.
ONLY use it on apps you've come to trust. Don't get in the habit of using it each time you download something new.
