This question is for anyone who is knowledgeable, but directed to member Buzz Lightbeer.
If you have multiple drives on a older machine 9600 upgraded to G3, can you copy from the OS installer TOMB the finder and System Resource folders from 9.2.X after you have updated all the extensions and or systems items from same OS? The OS 9.2.X installers will not install on older machines but I am running allmost all the current SYSTEM 9.2.X components under 9.1 finder.I am chicken to do the Finder without a little more insight
on what might happen.

You can replace all the files except for System and System Resources with the 9.21 versions, and the computer will still work. The Finder hasn't changed that much since version 9.1.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the reinforcement. What actually resets the startup boot window noting the Os being 9.1 or later?
A install file triggering or resetting the OS rom or the finder and the the System resource folders?

I think it's the System suitcase version. Earlier Systems didn't have a System Resources file, and checking the Finder version doesn't always get the right answer(for example, System 7.5 Version 7.53 has Finder version 7.55.)

The System FIle (System Suitcase) has a resource which dictates that. Nothing more.
It's perfectly safe to do what you want to, but, personally I wouldn't. OS9.1 is better. But... whatever. It'll work just fine.
