Just a 'movie-style' teaser poster for now... sorry, but absolutely no screenies 'till launch day Bwahahaha...

BBX OMEGA features:

o Slick futuristic styling with serious attention to detail (and heavy Japanese techno influence to boot)

o Photorealistic polycarbon surfacing with event-driven LEDs (heavy on both eye-candy and long-term usability)

o Theme(s), Dock skin(s), iTunes and Safari skin(s), system wide icons, desktop graphics, high-quality futuristic stereo alert sounds, (possible) Konfabulator widget(s) and more!

o 'Construction kits' featuring layered icon templates and desktop elements for a 'build your own' experience

To answer the inevitable questions - first, BBX MIRAI is on hold temporarily while I get this out of my system (but for reasons that will become apparent down the road, this one will actually speed Mirai along). Second, yes it's true - this one will actually see the light of day

A simultaneous 'official' XP release is also in the works. Website and new teaser materials will be coming shortly as well.

Sounds good to me too. But please, watch the hype. Props to Max for kicking out an awesome theme recently with absolutely no hype at all. Not even a mention. That's the way to go I think.
We need less Democrats and Republicans, and more people that think for themselves.

OMG! Freak me out why don't you! I almost had a heart attack! Just get one out already!!! We've waited for 2 years just for Mirai and now you get side tracked by Omega (witch looks just as good or better. I love dark themes!), all I care is that we get to use one of them before we die of old age.

And I think you deserve being pressured into releasing something soon just for your hyping them. If you're going to take 2 years to get a theme done just keep it under wraps until it's out....

I hope one of your new themes will be out before Panther, at the very soonest, and before the end of the year at the latest.

I did know about it about a month before it was out. All he said was it would be metal with green in it.

No hype at all? I've heard hype about Max's theme months before it was out.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Fall (within 30-40 days at most). No screenies until the OSX and XP versions are finished (for a million reasons).

Why should I watch the hype? I always hype my kits - that's part of the fun

Mirai is super complex with a lot of firsts in it - don't want to mess it up (you'll see). It's not even the same design it was when I started (biggest mistake was leaving the teaser up - should have taken it down sooner, er, right away)... Besides, a guy's allowed to make a fumble now and then - doesn't change the fact that this one will be uber-cool

Hey - I forgot about ByCrom! I loved that one too Ah, Albie - where are you now? Yeah, looks like the greeny-blue is very similar - goes so well with black, no?

I must say you are the man when it comes to interface design, so yes you are allowed some fumbles. Anyway, I so can't wait.

I'll drink to that!

Have you looked into skinning iTunes? I think iTunes and QuickTime are the only things that through off the overall interface themeing.

I also can't wait for the "Construction kits" cuz I know I'll be making some matching desktops and stuff as I always do. It would be helpful to have some cool textures and stuff to work with.

I'm running BBX Mercury X now, it matches my new G4 and now it's also in anticipation of your new theme.

How are you going to handle this dark theme? Will it involve white text in titebars? Or are you wokring around that.

BTW I just read "Black is beautiful" you will get called a racist in here for that.

But then again, you should be ok as long as you don't post it in the politics forum.

I am curious to see this theme.

I was wondering the same thing.

I don't suppose you've come up with a way around the whole nasty contrast in columns mode issue have you? Or the fact that black buttons tend to look bad on web pages?

These were the two things that really kept me from using Izawa's Shinobi theme for more than a day or so.

You mention it being high on usability so maybe you've worked some kind of OS X GUI miracle?

Yeah it happened to me.. One of the member here, quandarry accused me as a gay basher simply because I said Pez theme isn't designed for gay people only. Some people like to jump over the conclusion

Back on the topic, BBX OMEGA Teaser is loooking good. I like the color and I can't wait to see how you'll make them look good given the limitation in OS X

Well, you'll have to wait to see just how it's been handled - but some problems are going to be impossible to overcome with any dark design (namely contrast issues). If you like dark interfaces (like me), you'll probably love this one - if you don't, then no dark interface will ever be good enough. For those who do like dark ones, however - this one's very tight and fun to use.

Just to be clear, I wasn't trying to insult BBX, I think BBX Mercury is great.

I just remembered a theme called Omega made during the OS 9 days that was black so I dug up a picture for a laugh

Hmmm... not saying 100%, but I think it will work with both (although it may look a wee bit different from Jaguar to Panther). I happen to think that the Omega Finder windows look 1000X better in Jaguar than they do in Panther, but I think you'll have that problem with any theme (given that Panther's Finder GUI implementation sucks). I'm still working at solving this.

I'll be helping port themes since I've been testing Jag themes on Panther since the first WWDC preview. The biggest problem was the finder.... Do you know if Finder is just a normal brushed metal interface that might be disabled by Unsanity's haxie?

Unless you port Omega as soon as Panther is out, I'll be working on my own port for personal use.

Seems to me that it wouldn't work, since Metallifizer only changes Cocoa apps.

Your mention of Metallifizer and Cocoa just jostled some cobwebs in my brain.

Carbon apps can't natively use the textured appearance can they? It's a Cocoa only thing, right?

Carbon apps that have them are things like QT Player and iTunes which are hideous hacks. Does this mean that when you change themes under Panther the Finder is going to retain it's artificial metal look and window widgets?

Maybe I'm just wrong about Carbon and textured apps but then why wouldn't Apple update QT Player and iTunes to use standard textured appearance?

It's not like they care about OS 9 anymore.

Hey, guess what - so is Panther's Finder. It doesn't read or display the system's MetalWindow resources like any other app - and to top it off it only displays in grayscale. I myself hate grayscale, so all of my metals (and blacks like Omega) are full-color - which means unless things have changed between WWDC and the final version (very very possible if not probable), just about any theme is going to look like a dog's breakfast applied to the new Finder (Aqua hacks notwithstanding - they use true grayscale backgrounds).
