Yesterday we had a power outage and when the power came on and I restarted my iMac Safari was completely gone from my system. I checked everywhere but somehow the whole program disappeared. So I went to Apples site and downloaded Safari but when I went to install it it says I can't install it on my Mac volume because I need at least OS X 10.5.2 installed first. The strange thing is I have OS X 10.5.3 installed so why is it telling me I need at least 10.5.2? Is there any way for me to get Safari back short of reinstalling OS X?

Try updating to 10.5.3 again. If that doesn't work it sounds like the powerloss did some damage to certain files on the HD.

I think Dakar's got it. Try updating to 10.5.3, that would be my first move. It is kind of weird though how only Safari was missing. Was Safari running when the power outage occurred? Good luck!

I would download a program called pacifist, and then put in your installation discs. You can use pacifist to extract and install just the safari package.

You don't need pacifist, you can download Safari directly from Apple. The OP knows where to get Safari, he has problems installing it.

Have you tried fixing permissions?

I may check out Pacifist if I could just extract iPhoto or iDVD.

Wow, this is a very odd result of a power outage.

Never heard of apps disappearing like that.

I second the repair permissions before trying to reinstall.
