I just installed 10.4 on my 1ghz DP G4. I did an upgrade install and then restarted. Now every time I start up the computer, the boot screen starts up and then disappears and the console window fills the screen. I cannot get the computer to start up normally.
Any ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks!

Sounds like you're booting into verbose mode, which is usually invoked by holding cmd+v at boot. Not quite sure how or why it boots like that all of the time.

Try to reset the PRAM. Press command-option-P-R during startup.

Somehow, verbose boot up has been turned on. Normally you can do this by holding down command+v when you hear the startup chime, as others have said. However, you can also do this permanently
Code:
sudo /usr/sbin/nvram boot-args="-v".
Reversing it is just as easy, remove the -v from inside the quotes to leave them empty.
Code:
sudo /usr/sbin/nvram boot-args=""
