I thought the peeling paint was taken care of with the Anodized Aluminum body. Now 3 weeks into using my new MacBook and the little ledge between the keypad & palm rest has a spot where the paint peeled when I rubbed off a smidge of dust.
Anyone else having TiBook Deja vu?

Um, no. That's just a scuff.

The casing is made from anodized aluminum - the same aluminum that encased the iPod mini. It doesn't peel. Period.

wow. could it be a scratch from a watch band or something?

on alternative is to get the "Conce AL" paint made for the aluminum powerbooks. it's made by the same company that makes Ti paint that covers up the flaking ti paint from the old powerbooks

I wish. It comes off like scratching a lotto ticket. I actually TRIED scratching the rest of the case with my fingernail and absolutely nothing happened. This is not from a watch or any other jewelry, just light pressure from a fingernail

There was another thread where the original poster (and me) had this happen. Mine's a Powerbook, but this part of them definitely isn't anodized. A scratch card is a good way to describe it

It's just the angled strip between the palm rest and the keyboard that does this, though. The rest of the case seems perfect.

My Powerbook G4 has the same problem in the same area... I would assume from my thumb and accumulation of grease, etc - it has to be some sort of chemical reaction to the paint/body material that is causing it to flake off. It's sort of the same deal with the palmrests themselves, except those don't overtly peel - they just pit and get black.

Apple Genius said it was faulty anodization process and the top cover is going to be replaced under warranty as a cosmetic defect.
