Google is working on a second generation of its
Glass headset, the head of Luxottica has claimed. Massimo Vian, CEO of the Italian glasses producer, told attendees of the company's general meeting that a second version is under development with a future third variant of the smart headwear also being discussed by project engineers at the search giant.
The Wall Street Journal reports Vian as telling shareholders "In Google, there are some second thoughts on how to interpret version three. What you saw was version one. We're now working on version two, which is in preparation." Timing for an unveiling or launch for the device was not hinted at by the executive, nor how far along Google is in its development.
Google has
worked with Luxottica before, using the manufacturer of Ray-Ban and Oakley glasses' expertise with the design of new frames for Glass. There was also suggestion that the company's retail stores could also be used as a distribution network for getting Glass hardware into consumer's hands.
Earlier this year, Google Glass "
graduated" from Google X to having its own official Google team, under the command of Nest's Tony Fadell. Eric Schmidt
spoke up about the issues following supposed misinterpretation of the graduation by the media, claiming the technology is "too important to scrap," and that the change was made to make Glass "ready for users."
