Funny stuff this, on ebay, some mother sellign her kid's PS2 casue he went on a rampage in their home.

Sure sell the PS2 and teach him a lesson, but the lesson she should be teaching him is more than about money.

It would have been more fun to destroy the PS2 and see the kid's reaction. Picture this... the kid's playing on the PS2, mom calmly walks in with a big sledghammer and smashes the PS2 to bits. "There, now we're even."

I watch my sisters kids every once and a while. It can be a living nightmare at times. I feel sorry for parents.

No., it has nothing to do with having kids. These parents didn't LET them do anything.

They didn't give them permission.

THAT is what he is getting punished for.

Unless you can show where these parents gave permission, you have no case.

You're missing the point. You're assuming the word "let" means that they gave permission. I'm saying that as a parent, I wouldn't "let" that happen....meaning I'd make sure it doesn't.

So you'd stay with your kids 24/7 and make sure they didn't get into trouble?

It's not the parents fault the kid did things he KNEW he wasn't supposed to.

For example. My dad has had a rifle in his room on a rack since I can remember.

Never locked, never loaded though.

I have never touched it. Why? Because I knew I wasn't allowed.

Why not teach your kids to know better AND lock the rifles? Gun locks are so cheap there is no reason why you shouldn't buy one considering the alternative.

I think you're underestimating the ingenuity of teenagers to do things they're not allowed to. It seems by the obvious way this kid and his friends 'conducted their business' that he's not used to being kept on a particularly tight leash.

I know kids whose parents were above and beyond control freaks. They literally had to give reports to their every movement basically until they were 18. I'm sure the parents did this because they wanted to make sure their kids stayed on the straight and narrow, but if they thought it would work, they were more na�ve than should be allowed for parents! Obviously, their kids just developped more intricate ways of doing things they weren't allowed to, built more elaborate webs of lies, got more accomplices, etc.

They didn't break fewer rules, they just got better at not getting caught. Personally, if I were a parent, I would prefer to be that mother [okay, father] selling my kid's PS2 on eBay, rather than being the parent who is confident he's done everything he can to make sure his kid doesn't break any rules (and worse, believes that his kid actually doesn't break any rules)...

Kids have a will of their own. I have known kids that have been taught better. But do what they wish otherwise.

This sounds like this type of kid. Obviously the parents discipline him.

I had my Nintendo taken away for a year when I was a kid. I don't remember what the offense was, but it wasn't anything serious. Something like playing it too much or resisting going to bed because I was playing. And just for the record, I was a good kid. I don't know if it was being born a good kid, or good parenting, but I almost never did anything wrong -- like Z with the rifle -- because I knew I wasn't supposed to.
