Just been re-browsing Panic's audion skin
collection at their site and remembered
the 'coolness' of some of those themes.
Even if everyone now uses iTunes -
Audion was a treasure trove of GUI -goodness
Question is -did you have a fav skin/interface ?

I miss Audion so.. I wish they'd update it, but I'm not getting my hopes up..
Nested playlists....
Wetware was a great skin though.. as was the Cryogenesis one NetworkShadow mentioned.

Audion doens't work on my computer anymore. I hope Audion 4 is much better in terms of more iTunes like playlists.
Hell, a skinnable iTunes is exactly what I want.
I liked Wetware and Marathon Resurrection though.

I think BBX said you have to be playing web radio to make it light-up

Oh ok - I was really excited about the LED, but I don't really listen to Web radio very often. Plus, how can you beat iTunes?

iTunes just needs skins, or a nice skin-able remote that hides iTunes when you don't want to see the playlists. Konfab is nice and all, but I think a standalone remote with skins to the extent of Audion would be everything we'd want. Anyone know how to program to that extent? I think it would be a cool project to start if we can get some programers.

There are numerous applications that comunicate with iTunes -- that's not really any problem. I don't have any experience with skinnable interfaces, but I bet that's not too bad either... depending on the level of skin =]

Ya I've been using Sofa on and off since the 2nd beta. It seems quite limited on how skin-able it is.
The controller part I know would be relatively simple, it's a skin-able interface to the extent of Audion that I'm talking about. So if anyone thinks they could pull it off I'd like to know.

Good Call Shadow. It also seems like SOFA was much more stable in the earlier test stages. A lot of folks have voiced disgust with the recent complexities its taken on. I wonder why Apple is so crazy stingy about a mainstream aesthetic? Its not like the Apple Computer is known as the "artists" computer or anything, and people have always thought it synonymous with free thought and expression?
Obviously Apple wants to keep a contemporary look that compliments the standing OS X; this has happened since the release of OS X. However I can imagine some of the first skins we might see will appear for the Win-XP crowd. A reason?
Well there is a few that might stand true. Win-XP's GUI alternatives have always been more diverse in size and design. There's a few rumors floating around the net. The theory is when you're given a Caveman OS to work with in the beginning the typical reaction from the user is to change it in every way aesthetically possible (to make people think its OS X even?). So in a sense the less appealing the original OS or Program GUI the more the minds gather together to change it fast, quick as lightning. Thus more users are probably content with iTunes because its off the bat a beautiful GUI Home Run and the average Apple Computer user nowadays is looking for a simple substitute from the daily crashes and viruses and to leave it at that (Which is Evident in the Whole Switch Campaign). So tadow! On the flip-side because of this Caveman uprising, a revolution started on Windows, and today literally hundreds of thousands of crazed Windows user are GUI maniacs customizing even their IE browser globe animations with 360 degree pictures of their mother!
Ya Put da Puddin' in da Macaroni and Slam Dunk the Funk!
I would like to see some new stylin skins on iTunes. ResEx does have old school iTunes skins but they're Marijuana leafs or Happy Faces. Which is cool for some people?

Wasn't around when I used Audion, but this looks cool:
Gizmo was my first favorite
But I moved onto, and spent most time with the one that mounted in the corner, though I can't find the picture of it.

Well we do know your making an Omega iTunes controller konfab widget already, and now I know it will also hide iTunes due to your quote of my message.
BUT I would like is a standalone app with a good framework for making cool skins sutch as Audion's.

I'm just wondering something about Konfabulator in general.
I hear it's a javascript runtime environment, this means that is simply runs javascript applets right?
Wouldn't it be possible for somebody to just call upon Apple's Javascript core or whatever it is they call the script part of Safari and essentially get the capabilities of Konfabulator for free?
I'm sure I'm missing something here and somebody will clue me in

Konfabulator runs off the Mozilla Javascript core.
However, it does not just run javascript apps. They defined their own subset of JS to do everything Konfab widgets need to, as well as their own XML based widget system. Bottom line is that it would not be easy to reproduce, but doable.

Yeah, I was thinking about that once. "Konfabulator widgets are made in XUL and Javascript... isn't that EXACTLY what mozilla uses?" If someone showed me camino running a konfab widget, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
