Using iMovie HD 5.0.2, QuickTime 7 Pro and Tiger, Canon PAL MV450i, FireWire 400 6-4 connection, PowerMac Dual 2GHz, 2.5GB RAM.

I have a VHS tape I want to burn on a DVD.
So I put the tape in my VCR, connect my Canon DV camcorder to it and recorded it.
I then imported this in iMovie.

I have done this often before, and after exporting it to iDVD then burned the DVD.

This time, however, I only hear one channel audio. Not mono, since it's a music tape you can easily hear it sounds like crap.
I have an idea it has something to do with QuickTime 7.
QuickTime reinstaller 6.5.2 only seems to work in Panther, so that is not the solution.

Does anyone has experienced the same (more or less) or read somewhere about it?

Thanks.

Make sure your camera is mixing in stereo, and that the mix aint all the way to right or left, I know my sony has options that effect this.

Also, if your VHS tape had mono sound, or what ever created it made a stereo source into mono sound then your Camera may be importing that single channel onto the left or right (normally left from my experience)

Thus the camera fed your computer a stereo track with one channel.

I doubt the problem is QT 7, and if it is, QT 7 might just be separating channels properly now, thus you notice it. Example: if you have a 5.1 card in your comp, and play a mono, or single channel sound / source you will hear it in the center channel only. Unlike in the past where it was always mixed into mono-stereo. One channel, one speaker, sounds normal to me...

Sorry for the rambling, but it might give you some ideas to try. Or concepts to check out.

Thanks for you reaction. T
he upgrades are huge and very new for many people, so that's the first thing to look at.
I used the very same camcorder, checked audio settings.
The VHS tape is from Sting - Summoner's Travels (which never made it to DVD) so sound is so much more important than a movie or doucmentary.
I will check out things more and will post when found solutions.
