After reviewing the Mac mini (2.0 GHz stock model) against the MacBook (black 2.16 GHz stock model), the Mac mini beats the MacBook in every test (from file copies, FPS in Unreal Tournament, Photoshop CS3 test) and not just by a hair, but in a few cases 10 seconds+.

What's the reason for this? They both use the same processor even though the MacBook is 160 MHz faster, both use the same hard drives, graphics system, and RAM.

MacBook benchmarks: Macworld: Review: MacBook Core 2 Duo/2GHz and 2.16GHz
Mac mini benchmarks: Macworld: Review: Review: Mac mini Core 2 Duo

Lots of differences between those tests:
• The mini was tested un der 10.4.10. The MB was tested with 10.4.9.
• The iTunes versions are different (7.1.1 on the MB, 7.3.2 on the mini)
• Compressor 2.3 (on the MB) compared to 3 (on the mini)

For the comparisons that were otherwise equal the measured differences are small. Have you considered that these measurements have an error margin? Macworld hasn't specified that margin and for all we know they haven't determined it either.

There's no real difference between the machines in terms of hardware, so it's probably just the error in the test. That's the downside of doing 1 round of testing on 1 machine.
