Hey all -- I have a 42" 1080i Plasma and a new XBOX 360 Elite. It came with the HDMI cable, hooked it up and when I put in a standard DVD it seemed to upconvert it from 480p to 720p. Is this correct? I have searched Google and most people answered others with "search google" or it was just posts of people asking with no replies.

What resolution is your xbox set to? I may be wrong but i thought only the hd-dvd drive could upconvert?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

It will upconvert to the resolution you have your 360 set to over HDMI. It will NOT upconvert over Component connections.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

The HD DVD drive can't upconvert since the HD DVD has no video connection at all. It's the Xbox 360 that has the video connection.

So yes, the Xbox 360 can upconvert, over HDMI and VGA. Unfortunately, the Xbox 360 isn't that good of a DVD upconverter in my opinion.

OK good. I have it hooked up via HDMI and set at 1080i in the XBOX settings.

360 will output HD DVD movies at 1080p, but everything else tops out at 1080i over component. VGA and HDMI can output 1080p for everything.

Except for DVD playback. It tops out at 480p over component and composite.
