When I open the get info window for an icon the copy option under the edit menu is grayed out
This is a brand new machine and this is the only account on it.
Can someone help me please?

There should be a way to expand your chioces while under get info, there is a lock to click on then enter your password and then it should let you change the icon.,I think-Its somewhere around there though I am sure of it.

the icons are unlocked and i've noticed that when i look under the edit menu while in the get info window the copy option has something else than the icon in the quotation marks
edit: i released that it is the last item that was selected when the edit menu was clicked in the finder that is in the quotation marks after the word copy under edit menu e.g Copy "last item selected"
This is not necessarily the item that the get window is open for
I hope that make sense

You can't use Apple(Command)-C ? Does that not work regardless? I NEVER had any issues with copying icons that way. It seems you do though so what can I say ?!
Maybe you should take a look at your harddrive and see what access you have to it ?!
It shouldn't be neccesary though, as you stated its a new machine.
Edit.. btw . you have to mark the icon that you're copying so that it has a blue glow around it for it to work. The same with the icon you're pasting the new icon onto.

Fanboi - I have had this occasionally, it is usually fixed by loggin out, I assume that restarts and logouts did nothing to improve things?
