Would it be realistic to have some sort of facial recognition program tied into fast user switching? It'd be pretty sweet to have the iSight watching for different users
Yeah its probably a horrible thought... Most likely it would suck and be a pain too... but talk about a bell and whistle to impress people
Voice print would be pretty nifty too... though that never seems to work right.

Cool? Yes. Practical? Not really, at least not yet. Maybe in the future things like this will be implemented since RAM, CPU and HD space will continue to become less and less of an issue. Right now, text input authentication is still the easiest way.
Would be impressive though. Something I'd love to see.

Only catch I can think of with this, is what happens when two of your users get in the camera's view so grandma can see them? The software would have to know how to handle that, even if it was a voice or keyed command to disable the feature.

I have a feeling that twins would opt to use the low-tech, but reliable, password authentication as opposed to face or voice recognition.

It'd have to disable auto-switching when iChat was in use.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

But what about recognizing the Bluetooth phone? That is, if I'm in the the room with my cell phone I'm allowed to log in and fast user switch without entering my password. If I'm out of range with my phone the password is required to log in.
Apple should patent this as Phone Key technology.

Why just your phone? Apple should put bluetooth into the iPod or just make another PDA already and do it that way.

Because I don't carry around an iPod or PDA all the time.

Face recognition isn't as effective as the press has hyped it up to be. Some city in Florida used for a year trying to catch criminals. The computer did recognize any. Not one.

I'd hope my twin couldn't log in as me (she's a... she )
I don't know how wild I am about voice/face/ fingerprint/etc authentication. Good ole passwords work for me. Sure I guess it'd be cool, but we gotta leave something for the movies, eh?
