you were oh so close....from that "about this mac" box, click on the "more info..." button and it will launch the system profiler utility, from there click on the "ATA" section and it will tell you all about your hard drive.

Or if it is not on your desktop (I hate having the HD icons on my desktop), open a Finder window, and select the HD in the panel on the left of the window, then choose "Get Info" from the "File" menu (or press Command-"I".

that worked! thanks alot!

it says,
Capacity: 38.17 GB
Available: 17.7 GB
Used: 20.47 GB

weird thing is i thought it came with 80 gigs. i guess i was wrong.

i'm making music on my computer and i realize that at some point i'm gonna need more disk space.

what's the recommended amount of adequate space for a proper digital audio workstation.

thanks.

At the moment, you've only just over half-filled it. If you find yourself running low, buy another disk.

I think the most appropriate answer to this question is "as much as you need"

External hard drives are so cheap these days. I just got the Maxtor 160gb at Costco for like $150. It is firewire or usb. Just plug it in-you don't even have to install the software, unless you plan on using retrospect to do your backing up. But if i am not careful this will become a peripheral discussion:-)
