Greek users of iCloud are being assisted by Apple during its ongoing
financial crisis, by providing an extension to their accounts. Customers in Greece are unable to make transactions out of the country, including payments to app stores and other online subscriptions, so Apple is helping with the addition of 30 more days to paid iCloud plans, in order to prevent an interruption of service to any of its users.
Earlier this month, Greece implemented new regulations to prevent any funds from leaving the country, while the country's government attempts to negotiate a new bailout loan with Europe. While this action prevents citizens from trying to safeguard their funds by funneling money to accounts in other countries, it also effectively halts international credit card processing activities, ones which are relied upon for online services.
Email sent by Apple to iCloud subscribers in Greece
Weeks ago, Apple sent an email to iCloud subscribers in Greece, warning that their allowance would be downgraded to the 5GB free tier if payments were not made at their usual time. A second email received
by iPhoneHellas now advises that affected customers have an extra 30 days before payment is required, along with the warning that they may need to adjust their cloud storage arrangements if it cannot be renewed on the new payment date.
