Well here you can post your Dock and DragThing screenshots. It's not as interesting as full screenshots... and they include the docks anyways... but here we can focus on our docks. Here's mine (I showed all the layers because I was bored.. I don't expect you to take the time do it unless you want to)

Maybe we can have a "Most icons in the dock contest." or a "Most expensive dock." one

Edit: Made picture a thumbnail.

JoeG4 has an insanely long dock. His dock consists of about 55 icons.

The guy has a Cinema display.

sorry, it's vertical, so it will take up a lot of space. At least it won't make the thread scroll to the right...

Yes it's vertical. I like it better that way. I have launchbar and therefore not many things on my dock.

I like to keep my dock in the upper-right corner. I think it works well. You can also see how I've hacked the HIToolbox.rsrc file to use OS 9-ish icons, which I prefer to OS X's. I'm also using the Vanilla theme that was announced in this very forum a few months ago, to get rid of at least a few of the billions of pinstripes OS X insists on foisting upon its unsuspecting userbase.

Anyway, on with the pic:

Is it everones mission to have every app you have ever used in the dock?

Make it simple, put the Applications folder in your dock and save a ton of space and time.

Not to sound cocky or anything, but I think my setup rules! No useless junk in the dock, every app I regularly use three clicks away.

Any room left on screen for the actual app?

Drop Drawers is better this way, because it collapses the entire window down to the tabs at the bottom of the screen, showing the contents only when you click on a tab. Too bad it's so damn buggy...

I'm with Immortal K-Mart Employee on this one. Sure, I've got... let's see... 102 "nonstandard" apps plus the Dev Tools package, but I'm not going to toss them all in the Dock. Do some of you people throw fancy stuff in your Dock because you think it's impressive? Do some of you have Dock envy? Do some of you just want to show off your b3r 1337 w4r3z collection? I think so.

Bah.

I only keep the items that I use constantly, apps that I know I'll be using every day. My style? KISS.

The server made a boo boo. (403)

It isn't the length of your dock that matters... it's how you use it.

Very simple dock. Launch bar makes every app only 2-3 keystrokes away.

Buggy? I'd agree on the first osx versions, but 1.5.8 has been very nice to me - I have had maybe one crash since I installed it when it was released (I've downloaded but not yet installed 1.5.9).

Are you using it's other features as well? I only use it as an app launcher.

Well, in my dock, I *do* have an alias to the Applications folder. I also put the apps I use on a regular basis there. I don't think it's too cluttered at all, especially since I keep the dock in the upper-right where it can get as big as it needs to without affecting anything (though, since my regular suite of apps is in there already, it rarely gets bigger than it currently is).

ok, here's mine:

the borg cube is where i have aliases to my apps, the developer stuff, my home directory and a couple of other aliases.

i think i still have too much stuff in there, i really like it minimalistic.

edit: almost forgot, most of my documents and other important stuff lies on the desktop, so after seeing the post about only browsing the web: yes, i love the internet, but i got a life

My Dual 533 Tower:

My iBook:

My iBook has my DragThing setup almost identical to my tower.

I have my DragThing docks set to auto-minimize when I'm not using them, so they make cool "menus."

Drag documents onto apps in one of the drawers. It lets you drag documents onto apps that can't open them. Even more annoying, it sometimes *doesn't* let you drag documents onto apps that *can* open them...

strepidus,

I'll guess that your desktop picture is from NASA? Care to tell me the link/name of the pic? It's great.

Back on topic, I have a pretty standard dock, but I have been thinking of using some of the new utilities to get things more organized. What is the virtual desktop utility and has anyone used it?

Hey! Bite me! Take a second look at my dock:

I've got the standard suite of 'Net apps (Web, email, IM, etc), then, under the non-web-browsing category:

Word
iTunes
GraphicConverter
Toast
FileMaker Pro
Quicken
Terminal (unix is good )
BBEdit
QuickTime

Seems like I do a fair bit of non-internet related stuff to me.

And yes, I do use Photoshop. Just not often enough to justify a place in the Dock. These are the things I use at least twice a week, usually more.

And anyway...where the heck do you get off criticizing something as stupid as how I like to use my Dock? Doesn't that seem kinda dumb?

Oh please. How much screen space does quicktime, iTunes, toast and the terminal need? Next to nothing.

Pro apps like Dreamweaver, Fireworks, golive, Photoshop, FinalCut Illustrator take up a ton of space so you can't have big cluttered docks in the way.

You have heard of these apps right? Creative is the one market Apple has a monopoly on and the reason people get Mac's so Apple is going to cater to them.

I'm sure I could come up with a response to this. But it's not worth it. My dock works for me. Why you have a problem with it is beyond my comprehension, so I'll just leave it at this:

You don't like my dock? Don't use my computer.

This is my final remark on this matter.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... So you're telling me that you use Dreamweaver and Golive? You must have one sweet website. I can see using Photoshop and Illustrator. I only use PS to make my images, but Illustrator has a place for some people. But, Final Cut? So you're a web designer, making sweet Web sites in both Golive and Dreamweaver, making images in both Illustrator and Photoshop, animate stuff in Fireworks, and on top of it all, you're a professional video editor/producer? Holy cow! I mean, if you use all those apps so frequently that they all need to be in your Dock, you must not sleep!

Ok, getting away from that, here is my Dock, and since I recently made a movie of it, you can download that if you want.

Low Quality [10fps, 1.2 MB]

I'm surprised that you don't even know what your sister website is doing! You can find those icons at Xicons.com
http://xicons.macnn.com/?start=6

It's quite a nice icon sets but I can't afford to edit the system just to change Finder and Trash icon. Don't want to screw my system up at wrong time.
