Apple has topped a 2014 JD Power ranking of customer satisfaction among US smartphone owners. Each smartphone maker is scored according to metrics for performance, physical design, features, and ease of use, and relative to each of the four major US carriers: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. Apple is in first place with all four carriers, but trailed closely by Samsung.

HTC typically ranks third, except at AT&T, where it's surpassed by BlackBerry. AT&T has the best average score among the carriers; Sprint is in second, followed by T-Mobile and Verizon.

Apple has regularly used its JD Power rankings as marketing fodder for the iPhone and iPad. The iPhone in particular has won eight consecutive JD Power awards, dating back to the original iPhone from 2007.

Ooops! Apple and AT&T have the best results? That's not going to sit well with certain haters of both companies.

As noted in the article, Samsung has never actually won one of these across at least the last four years (the awards are given out every six months). But it is definitely worth noting that they steadily get closer. Until Apple releases a new iPhone.
