Hi,
If I partition a 200gb hard drive externally (using case/ide-usb connector), can I then use the newly 2x100gb internally in my G4 giga-ethernet (which has a 128gb max capacity limit for internal hard drives)?
BTW osx 10.4.4 1.4ghz (owc).
Thanks,
Warren

No. 128GB isn't a partition limit, it's a hardware limit.

Although I understand that someone is selling a $15 driver that lets you see more than 128GB on a pre-LBA48 controller (but you still need to boot from the first 128GB).

Thanks for the info., it caused me to do another search. I had gone directly to Intech's site and it costs more, but OWC has it for $15 and that's for the oem of Speedtools, the whole package, not just the high cap driver***must by a hard drive for this price***.
I had read in another thread that you could use a partioned drive if it was done internally on a different machine, but you wouldn't have access to the other 100, if you needed to boot from it.

If you have problem with the drive and need to do disk repair, having a partion that is larger than the hardware limit will come back and bite you...

Yeah, FAQ is cool. If you want big drives in a G4-GE then I'd recommend a SATA card. SATA will be standard for longer than ATA-133, and it will be easier to swap the drives into a G5 or Macintel. You can get bootable SATA card for the mac for under 60USD

Oh, yeah the driver thing is okay but does have issues, like disk repair.
