I never liked Carlin. He made his name just by being vulgar basically. And bashing religion.

He isn't all that funny.

Wow, he certainly isn't getting any younger. But he looks pretty good for his age. But its just not the same watching him on stage when he's a little hunched over, speech is slower, etc. He used to be very quick and more energetic.

But still, he looks pretty good. He also doesn't talk as much sh!t as he used to.

Being a teacher for 10 years some of his points are valid, our school district has dropped the passing grade 2 times in 10 years. Our pensions here in NJ are still in threat. Our school is more a business. But thats the way it is and the way it is going to be for a while. George may be extreme in his opinions but that doesn't mean some of his points are not valid.

Well that is a rather simplistic view of his work Kev.

SOME of his stuff, yeah, but he made his name being fu*kin hilarious...and he makes fun of pretty much everybody. So maybe, just maybe, it's not always about making jokes against your religion.

One the my favorite observations has to be in relation to driving.

Anyone who drives slower than you is an idiot.
Anyone who drives faster than you is an asshole.

He has made hundreds if not thousands of humorous and original observations about life and society.

To dislike him because he insults your god seems shallow.

It's really not about my religion. It was the condescending insincerity that got on my nerves. And it got worse the old he got.

His earlier stuff wasn't bad. Then he just turned into an old grumpy left-wing shill.

I never found him to be all that funny, but that's just a matter of taste.

Then he started turning every show into a bitch-fest and I just can't even tolerate him anymore.
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

I watched that video I caught I think 3 punchlines. If Carlin was doing comedy before, he's not doing it now. He came off as a Political commentator, nothing more.

I liked Carlin, even during his acerbic bits about religion, but if you listen to his 1999 CD You Are All Diseased, you'll quickly notice he's no longer a keen observer of humankind's foibles and hypocrisies; instead, he's bitter and unhinged, mean for the sake of being mean. His jokes sound malicious, a far cry from the poignant observations of human behavior he once made.

EDIT: But I will say that in terms of political commentary (especially in the linked clip), Carlin is right on point.

The reason I don't find "here's the harsh truth" comedians all that funny a lot of the time is often enough because they're right.

When you find that even the most acrid hyperbole *still* doesn't live up to reality, it stops being funny.

That's not really the comedians' fault, though.

I'll semi-agree with you there that his old stuff was pure gold, losing his wife to cancer def. made him a whole lot more bitter over the years.

Not much "truth" to his bit. it's not meant to be taken seriously. It's comedy.

Yes I know what satire is. But I still don't think it's meant to be taken seriously.

It's like the Daily Show.

OH SNAP!

Bad example, I keep forgetting there are people here that take that show seriously.

Just because humour is used to highlight real problems does not mean it should be taken any less serious. But keep trolling Kev.

Was this supposed to be a joke or a conspiracy theory?

Poor, poor Carlin. He used to be all about people taking responsibility for their own problems. Now he plays the blame game just as much as the people he once claimed to despise. How the mighty have fallen.
