After hours of PM's the Showolf issue has been resolved. I told him that if he convinced me he wasn't a troll, I would apologize publicly for calling him an asshole and breaking any number of forum rules when I went off on him in the Pope thread. So... I apologize. Sorry about that.
He's agreed to tone it down and not come on so harshly, and I've agreed to not get him banned. I think it's win-win. Now I'm going to bed. Good night.
