Picard reports, "The teachers and their supporters, on the other hand, had plenty to say. The board waived its privacy policy regarding personnel matters at the request of the four teachers, and each addressed the board prior to its vote on their contract. Bosley rebutted the two reasons she was given for not being renewed as newspaper adviser — that the paper contains too many errors and that student staff, because they use Macintosh computers, are not being prepared for the real world."

Sounds like this board is out of touch with what people in that field are using. Last time I went into the offices of our local paper, I saw an awful lot of iMacs. I should have pointed out to these professional reporters that they aren't prepared for the real world.

I must be living in a dream world then. I use Macs every single day to make a living. Never touch a Windows PC ever. What sucks about my dream world is that I still gotta pay taxes and bills and crap. Bum deal.

Those words came from the ousted faculty adviser's mouth, not the board's.

Furthermore, note that the school also decided not to allow Karen Bosley to teach anymore journalism classes. Such a decision hints that Bosley has repeatedly disregarded journalistic ethics, and the school has had enough. "Too many errors" was a term mentioned regarding the school newspaper. Are we all to allow folks to head journalistic publications that regularly contain "too many errors"?

Perhaps she is hell-bent on continuing to use OS 9.2, or maybe the school's computer services staff prefers to support Windows. Who knows? All we really know is that this woman whose publication is consistently filled with "too many errors" claims the board stated that students are not being prepared for the real world because they use Macintoshes.

My money's on this being yet another error on Mrs. Bosley's part.

One more thing: this woman's 35-year tenure as faculty adviser to the school newspaper is in jeapardy, and the best she can gather for support is 20 people?

20 supporters out of 35 years aren't enough support to make her newsworthy. However, there is a huge group of rabid Mac users out there who will defend anything Apple, irregardless of the facts. And that's exactly who Bosley wants to engage in her support.

reading the article, it sounds more like the president didn't like how the school paper was a true journalistic endeavor, not just a puff-piece producing puppet of the presidency.

My son's high school used Macs exclusively in its Journalism classes. What's this about "not being prepared for the real world?"

Whats this about OSs changign every 3 years, and programs constantly changing, and the way we used computers 5 years ago is a lot different form the way we use them now. Good lord people. Using computer is all about learning how to operate with them around, and being able to learn new things.

Because InDesign, Quark, and Microsoft Office don't run on Macintoshes.

I mean... because. Yeah! So there!
