this just posted on apple's site; it does NOT show up in my Software Update.
on the apple site, says it's for users of "10.6-10.6.2"), so...huh? if there are some new tweaks, fixes...
why is this not available in Software Update for those of us who updated in the last 2 weeks to 10.6.3 users (such as myself)? odd... (or am i missing something obvious?)

I don't see it in SU either. Sometimes it takes a while to become available to everyone.

Weird. So how do I know if I need it ?

The description on Apple's site is not very telling.

This isn't the first time. There were two versions of 10.5.8 too. Also, you won't ever see it in SU if you already have the 1.0 update. Further, I don't recall Apple documenting the changes before either.

Mac OS X v10.6.3 v1.1 Update (Combo)

Haven't installed 10.6.3 yet. Maybe it's time now...

I just noticed it's only the Combo update that's changed. Most likely, they just rolled in another previous update such as a security update or airport update.

Tip: If you don't see the Mac OS X v10.6.3 Supplemental Update in Software Update, you don't need to install it.
Guess I'm okay.

If it shows up you need it.
If it doesn't you don't.

What if Apple made a mistake and it doesn't show up but I really really need it?

Then you install the v1.1 Combo update.

A version number like this means that there was a bug in the updating software itself - some file wasn't updated on some configs, some script failed, something like that. Most likely some configs got a smaller update than they should have.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I'm hoping it has some help for 10.6.3 v1 fragging my Adobe CS3 apps. Worst. Update. Ever. Cryptic note about filenames with # in them seems to indicate it may do.

Seems that the first go at .3 broke CS3 if your Mac's software serial number had a # in it or had 12 digits. Adobe say meh, we don't support CS3 under SL, why not buy CS5 now please thank you.

Apple makes no mistakes. Haven't you been paying any attention lately?

Is this related to the 2010-003 security update?

That update just popped up in my Software Updater, with a completely useless description (“Security update 2010-003 is recommended for all users and improves security in Mac OS X”—really? A security update that improves security? Why I never!), and with a link to this article … which doesn’t have anything about 2010-003, only 2010-002. The 10.6.3 v1.1 page also links to that article “[f]or information on the security content of this update”.

Ah, I see 2010-003 has now been added to the article, as well. An unchecked index issue in Apple Type Services, apparently.

If you don't see the Mac OS X v10.6.3 Supplemental Update in Software Update, you don't need to install it.

Note: The Supplemental Update is for any system that was updated from Mac OS X v10.6 using the Mac OS X Update Combined v10.6.3, build 10D573. It is not needed on systems that were updated from Mac OS X v10.6.1 or 10.6.2, and it is not needed on systems that were updated from Mac OS X v10.6 using the Mac OS X Update Combined v10.6.3, v1.1.

Apple wouldn't have anything to do with it accidentally not showing up. It's based on your computer. It's only for certain machines. I didn't need it for my MacBook, but I downloaded the update from Apple manually and installed it myself before finding out I didn't need it. It didn't hurt anything. So it doesn't matter if you force it to update, you probably won't hurt anything, but don't freak out if it doesn't show up.
