Well, I guess so. I lived in England for a couple of years, been pretty much all over the world, and I much prefer South Africa.

Yeah, we definitely have our problems, but the people here are very cool, the climate is awesome.

IMO - the best place to live would be Cape Town. I would live there, but there is too much that I have going for me in Johannesburg to relocate.

And how is the Dominican Republic? Been abroad? Like the other places that you went more? Or home?

I'm dying to go to England. I don't know why, but I've always liked the place. People have told me it rains everyday -- cool! Although if I ever move, I wouldn't live on another island. I find that people who live in continents have more opportunities as for travelling by land.

DR is great as long as you have power. Everything here is based on who you parents are and who they know. Sad, but true. Actually I'm currently living abroad. I am a US citizen. My family emigrated in the 40s-60s, but my mother decided the States wasn't a good place to be raised in, having herself been brought up there, and ended up here. I think it was for the best, although there are times when I've had wished I didn't live in this country.

Yeah, I feel you on that. Two days ago I guy that I know (well, barely, but he was close with one of my work colleagues) was stabbed to death in his bed during a robbery. Three weeks ago, one of my friends brother was shot in his bedroom, during a robbery.

Times like that, you wish you were not living in the city that has the highest crime rate in the world.

England is shi*t – have you ever been there? It does not rain every day, but in the winter it is just... horrible. Summers are okay, actually fairly pleasant. Yes, England is an island, but it really doesn't effect you. Just catch a ferry to France, you can even take your car. But you're 18, right? Why not just go?

No, I've never been to England, but wish to go someday, just because. Even though I'm 18, Dominicans are raised really family-centered. This means the only reason why I could move out is if I go study abroad, which I'm late if that would be the case.

I second Pata 'e Palo, and Museo del Jamon is ok I guess, (sometimes they have Bailaoras dancing Flamenco outside it's fantastic!).
Go to Adrians Tropical if you dare to taste some dominican food.
And Samurai has great asian food, I love that place.

Adrian Tropical? I wouldn't recommend you going there. If you wish to taste good Dominican food go to Marocha. They've got national and international food there.

You go out a lot! I had no idea Marocha served typical food, at all. I knew you weren't going to agree on Adrians but really where else can you safely eat a mofongo?

Thanks. We put in the floors, painted the walls, installed the baseboards, and pieced together the 7 pieces of IKEA furniture ourselves, so we're still too fed up with the process to create some artwork for the walls just yet (about 5 months later). There's not a single item of art/pictures/anything on any of the walls at this point.

I don't miss working so close to everyone else. In the hospital I used to work in, the back of my chair was about 18 inches from the back of the person working behind me.

It’s not a headache, really. I mostly work evenings and nights, so I’m especially unaffected. Sometimes it can get quite loud during the day (angry people on the other end of the line + ~100 people on the phone in the same room at the same time = mucho dB), but it’s not that bad.

Mostly, I don’t think anyone really notices the office surroundings much—they’re just sort of there, in the background. We don’t have fixed seating, so we move around a lot (the seat depicted in the image in my link, for example, is usually part of our Finnish team; not sure why I was sitting there that day), which means we tend to focus less on the surroundings, I’m guessing.

The lamps are mainly there for the night-shifters; we normally turn off all the heavy flood lights at night, when we’re only three or four people there.

Edit: Oh, I just realised you were probably referring to our lovely AS400 setup. Yes, that is a bit of a headache. Counter-intuitive, slow, unflexible. But stable.

I just realized how cluttered it was at that particular moment. One plastic cup, three Mountain Dew cans (still can't kick the habit), books, papers, etc. Today it was completely clean except for the iMac mouse and keyboard.

Yeah, the night shift seems like it would be all right. I hate having hordes of people all around in close quarters. It would be a claustrophobic's nightmare.

We've definitely gone with the minimalistic look for the entire office. Here, I'll post a few iPhone shots:

And now the ugly side of the office...

We just got the beast of a printer, the Epson Stylus Pro 9880, and stuck it in the corner as best we could. The Mac Pro station has serious USB cable issues, with speakers, a printer, a Wacom tablet, a mic, two Sony HD cams, an iPod shuffle, two 1TB external drives, and then dual display cables running everywhere behind. We're also ordering a new, longer white desk to match the others. We don't have a clue as to how we're going to hide the cables though.

PS: Congrats. I'm jealous your going to Donegal. That's one area of Ireland I have yet to visit and I have heard it is beautiful. (I'm a southern man with my family, way back, coming from county Kilkenny.)
