A friend of mine with a Macbook cannot see any text in iChat, its just a blank white screen. Even when he is typing and receiveing messages.

Also, the little red dot on the mail and ichat icons is blank. You can see the red icon but the number that should be there is not. I assume these issues are related. Anyone have any ideas?

Something is fubar. I'd have them do an Archive & Install. That's the quick and dirty fix. Actually, it's not dirty as it's one of the first things Apple would have you do if the problem's cause isn't obvious.

And run Disk Utility to make sure there aren't any corrupt sectors.

Try creating a new Mac OS X account, and setting up your iChat in that. If it works, then there is probably a preferences problem in the original Mac OS X account.

Before reinstalling just try to empty the caches and reboot.

Mine is freezing a lot. Would optimizing the system in Onyx help? And would repairing the disk in disk utilty do anything? Or could that just cause problems.

Everytime I try to empty my trash Finder keeps freezing. This is insane.
