Hello,

I'd like to know if someone has a macbook with a 100 or 120 Gig hard drive (BTO) and if the HD is as silent as the standard 80 Gig.

Thanks :-)

I put a WD 120GB 5400 in mine and am happy. Slightly more vibration, but its barely noticable.

I added a Seagate Momentus 120 GB (5400 rpm) and no noticeable difference in noise. The noise will vary depending on the brand, though.

I added a Hitachi 100gb and there was no change in noise/vibration.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

Are those drive provided by Apple (build to order) ?

I'm a bit concerned about a potential vibration issue with the 120 Gig model ... I tried a standard 80Gig model and it was so quiet.

I have the WD 120 GB HD from macsales.com.

It was cheap and got to me in 2 days... It was easy to install, and I have noticed zero issues with it as far as vibration/noise/heat.

OWC rocks!

Right now, I have about 11 free gigs on my MacBook. I'm waiting for a SATA version of the new 2.5" perpendicular drives. That's when I'm doing my hdd upgrade.

100 GB CTO MacBook here.

It's totally silent..I do feel some extremely slight vibrations when I rest my hand on the palmrest, but that's super-super-suepr nitpicky, and I wouldn't even have a thought about it (and didn't), until responding to your question.

I'm super-happy (and extremely impressed) with it. Also, 100 GB is really abount 93 GB, FYI.

Well, I am probably uber picky... but....

I bought a stock 2.0ghz Whitebook from Amazon.

Took out the 60gb 5400 drive and replaced it with a 100gb HItachi Travelstar 7200rpm. The Hitachi drive was noisy (clicky, rattling noises even at idle) and very very hot.

I replaced it with a Seagate Momentus 100gb 7200 rpm drive, which I am VERY happy with. Quiet as the original drive, slightly warmer but overall recommended.

With today's announcement of drives as big as 160gb from Seagate, though, it makes me wish I would have waited.
