ATI Just released new drivers for Radeon/RAGE 128 Cards I was wondering if I should bother trying them out or should I wait until Apple releases them. I've done it once before with the drivers released in May.

I gotta admit, after YEARS of slacking, ATI seems to be getting much better at these driver updates! 2 updates in 2 months? Wow!

Actually, I believe these are just for retail cards. iBook cards should not be affected by this, or at least this update shouldn't apply to them.

If ATI could make the Radeon 7xxx (whatever number it is) work in a beige G3 with OS X I'd buy one...

I thought that problem was fixed by the release of 10.1.5?

They not only work in beige G3's, but on my OSX-enabled PowerMac 8500 as well. As for this new update being only for retail cards... yeah, that's the official line, but they shouldn't do any damage to systems with OEM ATI graphics cards. I backed up the extensions on my TiBook and installed the update, and the display seems to respond a little faster for me. I'll have to do formal document scrolling and 3D gaming tests to see if there were any real improvements.

So is it worth installing on the different ibooks?

Installing a retail card driver update will do absolutely nothing for your iBook. Period.

That is, unless your 1337 soldering skillz have allowed you to replace the video card... if you did - let me know how.

This thread pops up everytime ATi updates the retail drivers. There are always a few who claim a bit of extra snapp... err, graphics performance, but I think it's just wishful thinking. Unless, of course, someone has some benchmarks to prove me wrong!
