Hi,
I watched the new Apple Event. Which one is Sia, in the end, the singer or the dancer?
Alright, thanks.

Isn't she the girl from that Somebody That I Used To Know video that was popular a few years back.

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

In the US, I'd say she's most well known for "Breathe Me", which was used in the final episode of Six Feet Under.

Well, it's cool if Sia is the singer. Good looks, lol. Anyway, Tim Cook hugged the dancer, though, which I now think is a bit confusing.
(He also told people to go the right and pointed to the left, maybe he was a bit confused.)

Stage right vs. audience right still screws me up.

So, I figured out the dancer is really famous. Apparently the dancer of one of the most clicked YouTube videos (1 billion (!) times !?). And very young. So Tim might have hugged her just so, not because she is Sia, and Sia stood around watching.
So you say, he just pointed to his right and told people, go to the right. Then they did and went to the left. Okay. Wild. :-)

When you face someone, your right is their left.
I'm assuming that's what the problem was. The audience needed to go to their left, but Tim was facing them, so to him, the exit is on the right.
In theatre, this problem is dealt with by specifying whether you refer to what the audience considers the direction (audience right/left) or what the person on stage considers the direction (stage right/left).
Audience left is stage right. Audience right is stage left.

Sia is one of the most prolific song writers, she wrote for Rihanna, David Guetta, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Kylie Minogue, etc. Have a look at her songwriter discography. She is really a song rwiting genius, she wrote many of these songs in less than 1 hour, but hates going on tours and the fame that goes with being a pop artist. (According to the New York Times article I linked to, she wrote Rihanna's #1 hit song Diamonds in 14 minutes.)

Not to slight her talent, but that song is for ever-repeating chords and about four lines of text. That it only took 14 minutes is unsurprising.
Production probably took a lot longer, since that's the only thing that gives the song some form of dynamic.

I'd say she's the top tier female singer-songwriter right now.
That's not to say "how could you not know her", it's to say "check her out!"
All the singles off her last album ( 1000 Forms of Fear) are very good.

That, and it was a big hit. How long does it take to write a pop song?

I find most of the songs she gives to others not to be my cup of tea, but the ones she performs herself are … sometimes hard to listen to.

A quick perusal of itunes leads me to believe all her songs sound similar. Also a bit too much nasal tone for me.

I remember the douchebag from Razorlight bragging he wrote one of their songs in five minutes. A genuinely talented musician could have done it about fifteen seconds and thrown it away for being shitty within twenty.
