WHY do people DO this?
A man in Orange County, Fla., was arrested after nearly 200 animals were found crammed into a small home with so much feces that officers could not see the floor, according to Local 6 News.
Orange County Animal Services said reports of a foul smell coming from Moqsood Ahamed's home located at 444 Marot St. in Orange County led them to the discovery of dogs chained to walls, birds and feces covered rooms.
"Feces is all over the place," Local 6's Erik von Ancken said. "It is so thick you can't see the floor. And the man who owns this house, Moqsood Ahamed, according to deputies, never lifted a finger."
Is it mental illness or just neglect?

That has to be mental illness. I mean, obviously, there's a spectrum -- it's hard to point to a line and say "this side is abnormal biology, and that side is just human weirdness" but I think that kind of behavior evinces some deep dysfunction.

Yeah, I've gotta say it's pretty sad when the crazy cat lady from the Simpsons is a fairly true stereotype.

I don't see the choice. It's both. There is no way it's JUST neglect.

See animals (and women) are like Voltron. The more you add, the cooler it gets.

On Loveline Adam Carolla used to do "Germany or Florida" under the law that everything that is truly strange, macabre, and disturbed was based in either Germany or Florida. They had listeners call in with stories like this and they would try to guess in which place the events transpired. This would have been a perfect story to call in with; very Floridian

Saving animals only to have them living in filth is a mental condition. Obviously logic is not involved as no one would save something only to inadvertently torture it later.
Perhaps all forms of neglect are due to a mental condition?

It is just as likely that the guy was brought up with very unconventional animal treatment ideas. People can seem very strange because of the 'normal' things that happened to them as a child or youth.
But then again, mental illness is thrown around a lot in modern medicine.
Mental illness n. - A medical condition diagnosed when a practitioner would instead say, "WTF?"
