I've been looking for years for an easy way to pull video clips off a DVD.

My home made DVDs started degrading and I've ended up with a bunch of VOB files that I can playback in VLC.

However, now I need to create a video showcase of different versions of Macbeth for my classroom (fair use!) and I need to be able to rip VOB files and convert them into a file that iMovie can use to edit them. I would also like it if this doesn't cost me a bunch of money.

Any recommendations?

Handbrake is the best ripper out there and it's free.
