Hello, This is my first post, though I am a long time reader.
I have a G3 DT/266, 768mb, USB and firewire PCI's, and a 17"vga monitor. When I press the startup button I hear the chime and then nothing. It takes about 60 seconds for the hard drive to kick in and the monitor to come on. While not a major issue, it is annoying. Anyone have any ideas what causes this and what can be done about it?
Thanks, Steve
ps I had jaguar installed for a few months. No problems - a bit slow. A small hard drive (4gb) compelled me to remove it.

That pause is the computer doing its POST(Power On Self Test). With that much ram, it takes awhile to test it.

I agree...it's a RAM test. But if I remember....it's been awhile since I used 9.x....you can turn off the RAM test in the memory control panel. That'll make your startup time shorter, and if you ever need it you can always turn it back on.

Yes, it is the RAM test, and you can turn it off in the Memory control panel under Mac OS 9x. But I don't think you can under Jaguar...
