I've got a bunch of old Corel clip art that I used in Sys 9. They have .CMX extension, as saved by abysmal Corel pgm that accompanied them.

When I drag onto Graphic Converter (4.2.1 as came with my system), it says that GC requires a plug-in such as GhostScript to operate. The ftp link that they offer at Wisc.edu is dead, and when I explore the Wisc.edu GhostScript sites that Google offers, they are either for Windows or for Sys 9 (or 8).

What does anyone know about the most DIRECT way in OS X to open (and hopefully convert) these EPS files.

(FWIW, *some* of the files can be "Placed" by InDesign into a doc and display awesomely; others cause ID to hang.

I'd sure love some way to get these into something besides EPS... or a more digestible form of EPS

Preview on Panther can view EPS files and I'm pretty sure that GraphicConverter on Panther doesn't require Ghostscript because Panther has a Postscript converter included.

You can download Ghostscript here:

Thanks, TETENAL.
I can't seem to get Preview to open (even using OPEN command within it) the .CMX files, even tho it shows them in Open Dialogue.

Should I try changing the extension? maybe to ____ ?

I guess I may try the GS download you linked, but I was really liking the idea that Preview should somehow to the job.

You'll want to change them to .eps.

Thanks, Devin. I had NO idea just changing Corel's (?propietary?) .CMX extensionn to .eps would be all that Preview needed. With that change I could drop file on Preview and it converted to .pdf... which I guess should allow me to convert it to wherever else I need to go with it.
