My hard drive has some invisible files named ".DS_Store" in several locations. Can anyone tell me what they are?

OSX makes them.

They store icon settings, file locations (as in window location co-ordinates), folder view settings, etc.

Pain in the ass.

I also delete them regularly and haven't encountered any problems.

You can delete them, it should cause any problems. You'll just lose your OS X view settings for that folder, but seing as you dont use X, you'll lose nothing

Cool, thanks for the advice.
Since I still use a 233mhz Beige G3, and dont have the money to upgrade, I dont think Ill be using OS X for a while. .DS_Store prepare to meet the Trash.
