To alleviate the posts in the last thread, here's a new one about Episode VIII.

The title was released today: The Last Jedi

So Luke is the last Jedi, trains Rey, dies in duel against someone and the title is now about Rey?

Or, another theory, is that "Jedi" is plural.

The emperor surely called him a Jedi by the end of ROTJ - and that title wouldn't make sense if he wasn't. Also, didn't TFA mention that Kylo Ren killed all the other apprentices Luke was training?

Makes sense.

Somewhere along the line I picked up the idea Luke never got enough of a clamp on his dark side to become an "official" Jedi. He teaches the new generation, but ends up as kind of a mess himself.

There was a book series called the Last Jedi, set between 3/4. Pretty good.

This sounds about right. He never actually went through the full training, though his on the job experience makes up for much.

I won't rehash everything he says in the video, but...

[EDIT] Why do my embedded YouTube links never work? Frustrating... Here's the link to the video instead.

I've subscribed to this guy for a long time. He has some pretty credible theories, especially the ones in which he believes Luke to be disillusioned with the early histories of the Jedi Order.

One concern...this looks awfully similar to podracing:

When embedding YouTube videos don't put the entire URL in the [youtube] tags. Just the portion at the end of the URL after "v=". Like this ...

Obviously talking about Vader who returned to being a jedi with his dying act.

It's also worth noting that Jedi can be singular or plural, meaning there may not be a single person the title refers to. The last Jedi could mean "the final group of Jedi".

This movie, like Ep 7 will obviously just be a remake of the empire strikes back.

I liked rogue one - alot. Thought it was infinitely more original and much more engaging than the episode 7 remake crap. It's darkness & ending was a great way to set the stage for a new hope and is the only movie aside a new hope IMO where you really felt the empire was an unstoppable goliath, or that the Rebel alliance was truly on the brink and could be annihilated at any time should the empire catch a whiff.

ESB and ROTJ - you never really got the feeling that the empire was all that more powerful considering the alliance had Luke, who proved at the end of a new hope to be the most powerful Jedi (albeit raw) in the galaxy.

Agreed. That term has been used in both singular and plural form throughout the series. That being said this is interesting.

As soon as Disney unveiled the title for Episode VIII, Star Wars fans started debating whether Jedi is used in singular or plural form in The Last Jedi. Translations from other languages suggested that Jedi is supposed to be interpreted in plural form, and we thought we settled the matter. There will be at least one extra Jedi in the movie aside from Luke, with Rey being the prime candidate for taking over the baton from her master.

But Johnson cleared the air on the matter, albeit not in a definitive way.

“It’s so funny when people started asking that when the title was announced because I had never even pondered that question,” Johnson said in an interview with Good Morning America. “That seems like, to me, the most, like — uninteresting, I guess. In my mind, it’s singular.”

The director was pretty vague, however, when the woman interviewing him pressed on, asking whether the last Jedi would be Luke.

“Well, if you say so,” he said. “I’m gonna take your word for it. They say in The Force Awakens that he’s going to find the last Jedi temple, and Luke is the last Jedi.”

Johnson certainly sounds like he’s not the director of The Last Jedi when giving that response, just watch the interview below. He’s convinced Jedi is singular, but is the last Jedi Luke? He’s not too sure about that.

The translated titles makes it clear that Jedi is plural in this case.

The last Jedi is going to rock - it's plural in German, too "Die letzten Jedi", so very many... Not bad... My last post to the forums maybe... I'm going to miss everyone, dunno, but I spent so much time around here and now the website went downhilll and some voice whispered I shouldn't hang around forums so much. Still think a new age is coming and writing a book on it ;-)

If they go with the gray jedi angle for this movie (and, I assume, IX) that would be something new and original.

Only if they don't kill him fighting a rancor while falling down a bottomless pit and bring him back as a white jedi in the next movie.

White Gandalf was off-putting and soulless.

I was reminded this weekend that those of you who want opening day tickets better get a hustle on, or sit in the front row of the 3D show and get neck strain.

I think we'll go Christmas afternoon. Combine the best of Catholic/Jewish celebrations: go to mass Christmas eve, go to the movies Christmas day.
