I tried to play a video on launch.yahoo.com and it said I needed netscape 4.7 to play it. I figured I'd try downloading the latest version and it still didn't work, I tried IE, safari, camino, mozilla and netscape, whats the deal? yahoo's fault? I have real player and wmp installed

Yeah, I'm having the exact same problem in os 9.Tried other older versions of Netscape & still no go.Using NS because Internet Explorer 5.1 (looks great) locks up frequently(entire system).I have dsl thru SBC/Yahoo and their tech support for the mac is pretty much non-existent.

I have gotten Launch to work using Netscape 4.77 in Classic mode. No OSX browsers seem to work. I tried having OmniWeb identify itself as Netscape 4.77, but it got hung up testing my connection speed. This seems like a Yahoo issue. I don't know why they refuse to support OSX.

has anyone notified them?
this is kinda REALLY lame.
just because when your friend comes over,
says "hey, lemme show you this video"
then tries...

and the next response is
"jez man, why do you use a mac? they're lame!"

i HATE that.
anyone know what we could do?

I watch Launch videos on OS X all the time, but it is tricky. You have to look at the page source and find the URL of the actual media file, and then enter that URL into the Windows Media application. The URL format changes periodically, but currently it looks like

http://launchtoday.launch.yahoo.com/...unch.yahoo.com

You have replace the number in vid=1085904 with the ID of the video you want to see, which you can find by locating the video on the web site and mousing over it. Look at where the link leads and it should say something like javascript(videoID).

You should also replace the bw=56 with the bandwidth amount you want to use.

Technically, you should also replace the uid=1202817607 with your own userID number, but if you can't find yours I guess it is okay for you to use mine.

I'm not sure why it happens, but Launch probably uses some nonstandard page design that isn't supported by the Mac version of WMP or Mac web browsers.

I don't think it has anything to do with the browser. I think that Yahoo coded it in to only recognize Windows IE/Netscape and has been too lazy to update it now that WMP for Mac has been released.

that is really unfortunate.
thanks for the info.

i feel like spouting off foul language,
but since i'm the one who loses out,
that's not gonna cut it.
