I broke the outer metatarsel in my foot on the weekend. Jumping over a curb. On foot.
All those years of skiing and mountain biking were for naught! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

So 6 weeks in a space-age plastic cast. Yay. And I picked up some onsite freelance work, which means trying to get to and from work every day. Yay.

So, you kids ever broken anything in a spectacular way?

Interesting poll. But why didn't you make this one question with five radio buttons, rather than five questions each with "yes" or "no" answers? Or, if you wanted people to be able to answer Yes to more than one category, make it one question with five checkboxes?

broke my wrist. Tripping over, of all things, myself. Damn feet. Then rebroke it by playing on the bars too soon. Then sprained it again playing "Hot Lava" with teh boys. Poor wrist. This is all pre-3rd grade, too.

Last day of high school: playing basketball in mocassins (don't ask), my second toe twisted 90� out of plane after a lay-up. I popped the toe back, went to the doc who said, "wanna cast for the whole summer?" I said no, and he said, "well then, the bones in your toe will just fuse together."

So now I have MUTANT TOE.

[Many years later, on the last day of classes in grad school, I also wiped out in basketball and sent my kneecap flying out of plane. Unfortunately, after popping that back, I couldn't dodge the surgery bullet again...]

So, I was riding my bike. a bmx (it was after all the late eighties) my friend (also on a bmx) is riding along, i'm heading toward him at a 90 degree angle, if he'd just kept moving i wouldn't have clipped his back wheel. also, i was moving pretty fast (i was quite fit in those days!) anyway, i went over the bars, saw the kerb coming fast toward my head, stuck both arms out in front of me and fractured a finger. note: that's fractured not broken!
i've never actually broken anything, really.
watch, tonight i'll trip on the dog and take a dive down the stairs and end up in plaster to my neck. that'll be just my luck.

middle finger of my left hand: playing my drums while drunk, cracked it on the rim of a tom and it f*cking HURT! carried on playing though

nose: about 4 times, through various drunken brawls, drunken accidents, etc.

right cheekbone: slipped down some icy steps in the dark, landed face down on a big rock. just missed my eye landing on a big spike by a few inches. ouch!

various ribs: no idea how these happened, but partying hard was usually involved.

left big toe: hmm. again, not sure how i did this one. the girlfriend at the time was clueless about it too. ahh well.

right big toe: about two weeks after the left one broke, i was taking my jeans off for a shower. the buckle on my jeans landed right on my toe. i'm like "JEEZ!" and hopped onto the other foot, forgetting that one was in agony too. for about 2 minutes, i just hopped from one foot to the other, screaming in agony. the g/f came to see what the noise was about and we just ended up laughing about it for ages. never did take that shower... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I fell out of a rather large oak tree about 8 years back. Dropped about 20 feet and landed on my right wrist. That didn't break (I guess I have strong wrists) but it compresed the radius in my forearm about 1 inch and it shattered back around my elbow. Even to this day my radius is a tad bit shorter than the ulna.

I cracked my rib while drunkenly climbing over seats in a theater, iI slipped and my whole weight came down on my rib on the top metal part of the theater chair, it hurt worse than the radius thing because I felt shooting pains with every breath.

All in all I'm no worse for wear. And I am whole lot smarter about climbing trees and drunken seat climbing let me tell you.

in high school i broke this *******s' nose. he was bigger than me but i slammed a garbage can lid in his face. i got suspended for 2 weeks baby!

Broke my foot when jumping from one park bench to another. It's a nasty thing breaking a bone in your foot, I had to keep my foot positioned above my heart for two weeks!! Then I couldn't put any pressure on it for another 6-8 weeks (I forgot exactly)

Once I rode into a deer, yes a deer, at 65MPh on my motorcycle. Got plenty of road burns, but nothing broke. Well except the deer and my ex-motorcycle.

**Note to self: Take deer signs seriously**

Middle toe from jumping in a pool, bone in hand from punching, of all things, the floor(NOT one of my finer moments�), and�oh yeah, my back when my cousin tried to jump over me on his bike and landed on me.

Third Metacarpal of my left hand is broken right now!

Broke it snowboarding at an indoor snowpark in the UK, trying a Railslide. Made it fourth time but bailed the landing and fell, not particularly hard. Thing is it didn't hurt a bit, rode to the end of the slope and when I tried to take release my back binding my fingers didn't want to move.

Ah well, have an X-ray this afternoon to see if it's healed, fingers crossed.

Well, not those fingers.

Well, in this thread, I would take the record...

10 broken bones, all 'major' compared to your's (eg, thats all legs/arms, no 'my right big toe' little injuries). All were some time ago, haven't had one in ages (fingers crossed)

Umm 8 of those were legs, 1 arm, 1 collarbone. One of the leg breaks was a b*tch. Involved 10 weeks of traction (you in a bed, not moving from it, for 10 weeks straight, while they literally PULL you're bones - happens when you break it, and the lower part of the break moves up past the upper, so you get overlap)

a real, real, real b*tch

But i can block out almost any pain now....

Anyway, if I haven't said it yet, my childhood was a b*tch :/

For those of you who ask, none of them were done by doing anything spectacular. All due to medical conditions, which I shall not state publically here. Lets just say, 75% of doctors wouldn't know the name of it, 99% of doctors wouldn't know the drug I'm on for it, and I was the first in the world on it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> Pioneer, heh

Left Wrist: Twice: Once as a kid falling off a homemade rope swing that came untied and sent me flying backwards. Once a couple years ago on my bicycle going over the rear trunk of a car that ran a red-light; A few seconds off and I would have gone right through the windshield. (Did I mention it was a hit-and-run?)

Toes: I have broken almost every toe at least once--I've got some mangled looking toes--and the little "pinky" toes 3 or 4 times each: They don't get bandaged in any way so I've got little stumps where the toes should be.

Cracked Rib: About a month ago taking a hard elbow--my own, as it turns out--in the chest during a "friendly" lunchtime soccer game at work.

Fractured Femur: Slipped on ice the wrong way when I was a kid.

Broken Collarbone: Skiing accident due to faulty marker binding, broke in 2 places, fractured in another.

Fractured Shoulderblade: Same accident as above.

I broke someone's tibia in surgery one day - but that was the bone saw's fault, not mine - and I guess it didn't matter because it was in a thousand pieces before I got my hands on it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

FYI: Most people that "break" their nose or ankle haven't broken any bones - it's usually a strain or sprain or other soft tissue injury. However if you twist your ankle correctly, you will break the fibula pretty easily, which I've done to both of my ankles for the record.

Broken wrist, fractured a few fingers and both thumbs, fractured toes... All through playing Rugby and Cricket.

Also, although not a break, a few years back I separated the knee cap from the surrounding muscle, and pushed it well out of place on 1 knee. That hurt the most out of everything...

Ribs, while sledding on a ridiculous iced-down course that we built ourselves. We put a jump right after a 90-degree turn, and I was partly off the sled when I took the jump.
Ankle, stumbling off a sidewalk. Well actually, it wasn't a bone right in the ankle, but that little knob on the end of the leg bone, that sticks out just above the ankle. IIRC, it's called the right medial malleolus. Walked (limped) around on it for a week before the pain drove me to a doc. I thought it was just a bad sprain.

Both hips twice , but this in operations to correct birth defects.
Right femur - (actually a careless surgeon in one of the above operations)

Broke my ankle last summer on a dare fromn the neighborhood kids. Behind a house there is this dirt hill, fairly steep about 30 feet long. at the bottom it levels out for about 3 or 4 feet then a 4' drop. The kids wanted me to ride a mountain board down it. Not a real mountain board mind you just a regular skateboard with the big tractor wheels (like you would find at WalMart). Well on the 5th attempt, I finally made it to the drop where I landed and promptly rolled my left ankle farther then I thought possible. 3 weeks in a cast, 2 more in a brace. dang kids and their taunting!
