Hardware
HDMI cables are everywhere -- if you've got a new-ish Mac, you can use them to connect your computer to a television, display, or similar device. It doesn't hurt to have a drawer-full of them, given their recent prevalence. Amazon has a four-pack of three three-foot and one ten-foot cable (plus cable ties)
for $9.20. These aren't dollar-store cables -- they support HDMI 1.4, Ethernet, 3D, and audio return.
Speaking of HDMI-capable devices, the PlayStation 4 has been out for a while, and we don't really expect a big holiday price cut for it, at least not this year. Amazon has the PlayStation 4 with shooter
Infamous: Second Son and three months of Playstation plus
for $399. In a related deal, Ebay deals has the Playstation 4 Dualshock 4 controller
for $40, $20 off the retail price.
This one may be very limited time -- Dell has the
50-inch LG 50LB5900 LED television for $580. While by itself, not a super deal on that size (but still $200 less than Dell's normal price) - but the television comes with a $300 Dell gift card! The gift card arrives 10-20 days after sale, according to Dell. Similarly, the
60-inch Vizio 1080P 120Hz LED smart HDTV model E600I-B3 is available for $850 ($130 off of Dell retail) with a $250 Dell eGift card.
Did you get in on the pair of 5TB hard drives earlier this week? Neither did we -- however, Frys has the 3TB Intellipower SATA 6.0Gb per second 3.5-inch Internal Hard Drive (WDBH2D0030HNC-NRSN)
for $89. Sure, it's not 5TB, but the price-per-GB is less.
Velcro cable ties in hardware? Sure, why not. It's not like we're going to break out a separate "velcro" deals category. Amazon has a 100-pack of eight-inch velcro cable ties
for $6.49. What? Are you telling me that your desk or entertainment system isn't a morass of cables snaking everywhere that could use some touch-up?

Developer Boinx is having a back-to-school sale, like just about everybody else. Highlighting the sale is video production and broadcasting suite
BoinxTV. For a limited time, the software has been cut to $199 from its full price of $499. The price is reflected when the software is added to the cart, and not on the homepage.
There are a number of good options for using one's iPhone, iPad or iPod touch camera to scan documents, but one app that's well-regarded and normally $2,
Scanbot, has been dropped to free until midnight (Pacific Time) Saturday morning. Available for both iOS and Android, Scanbot features an elegant software design, document and QR code scanning, no-click optimized image capture, and the option to save scans to a huge variety of cloud services, from Box to Yandex.disk.
It will also work with any
WebDAV-compliant cloud storage service as well, for a total of over 38 services. An in-app $5 purchase upgrades Scanbot to the
"Pro" version, adding OCR text recognition, content search, filed editing, smart file naming and custom themes.
We're old-school pinball fans. There have been tons of pinball games over the years, but our favorite (because it brings classic experiences home!) is
Pinball Arcade for a variety of operating systems. We don't know if this is a permanent cut, but
Pinball Arcade (which includes tables Tales of the Arabian Nights, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Theatre of Magic, and Black Hole)
is now free. Many, many other tables have been added, including in-app purchases. For those so inclined,
Pinball Arcade is also available (albeit not on sale, and with one free table) on the
iOS for $1
