This was news to me about 5 mins ago, when starting up itunes, if you hold down the option key, a window should appear and ask if you wish to create a new libary.
Perfect if you have a laptop and keep your mp3's on an external drive, like I do. I keep a small selection on my Laptop and the rest on my external, in the past itunes would crap itself if the external wasn;t connected and it tried to locate the file.
Not anymore.
To recap
Hold Option whilst launching iTunes

It's never worked in iTunes before version 7, AFAIK, though it was covered in this forum when iTunes 7 came out.

I remember this being in iPhoto, but I think they put it into iTunes 7.
Nice nevertheless.

I think I knew about it but never used it. Now I do. Pretty useful.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm about to get a new MBP, and will have exactly the setup you describe: 50+ GB of MP3 on an external FW drive, and a subset of those on the built-in drive.

Yeah its a great feature, would be nice if you could easily switch between the two libaries though.
Now I can manage my iTunes from my MBP , instead of my ageing G3 imac (USB 1
