Okay, getting this thread back on track again...ahem...

What's the latest on this? Is Frank working on it again?

Was the "wait 10 minutes" thing the upgrade?

Yes, that’s to be assumed.

Is anyone else getting the 30 second bug when using Quick Reply now?

Every time I post using the Quick Reply function, my message goes through just fine, but I get a page saying that this forum has a 30-second limit between posts, so I have to wait 28 seconds before I can post my post—looks like it’s trying to post the same thing twice at the same time, though I only hit submit once.

Edit: This thread tells me others are getting that too.

Also: I still get the “be back in 10 minutes” message whenever I ‘Previous’ back to the front page, though only there; the forum listings are fine, and refreshing the front page brings it back up just fine as well.

The delay last night was because we were still updating all the counters. Do you still see the delay now?

No delay here, but that "Quick Reply" issue needs to be squashed pronto.

Yeah, we underestimated the time for the upgrade. There were some issues not detailed by vbulletin, but pete came through with flying colors (at one point, i thought we may have to restore the db!!!)

m.

As I said, later this week on the encoding issue.

i've updated all of our custom templates to take advantage of the new 3.6 featureset.
the multi-quote button, for example, works now.
the quick reply also seems to be behaving.

any other issues popping up?

Thanks DH, things are working nicely so far.

There appears to be a few images that don't load though. For example, when you hit "Quick Reply", I believe a small image showing the QR is being processed is not appearing as it should.

the multiquote graphic is up. i probably should have taken out the red arrow, but oh well. it's still better than the vb default. maybe i'll redo it later. notice that it changes when you click on it.

the progress wheel should be now too. thanks.

Will it stick? Why does it only change when I click it and not come up like that by default?

EDIT: NVM, they're working on my Mac and PC now, they weren't earlier.

The only ugly vB "default" icon left I think is the "view post" icon when quoting somebody as seen below:

Can that be changed?

Here is a revised one:

that's a good one, but it's a png (don't want to cause compatibility issues. at least not yet). anyone have it in gif format?

There are some serious usability issues with the reply, multi-quote, and q-reply buttons. The reply button loads a new page, the multi-quote is an Ajax control that sets a flag on the post, and the q-reply button is an anchor link down to the bottom of the page for users that have quick reply enabled, and presumably reveals the quick-reply field for users that don't.

There is little feedback provided to the user as to what to expect with these controls, and their usage isn't intuitive until the user familiarizes themselves with these controls. I know this is probably simply the vBulletin defaults for these mechanisms, but just for fun here is how I'd improve these controls:

- "Reply" reveals a textarea (via Ajax) for crafting a reply to a message without leaving the page

- "Multi-quote" also includes a checkbox to provide visual feedback to the user that this option is simply a flag. I think that users are probably pretty clear that checkboxes are typically used to flag options

- Quick-reply goes away, since the "Reply" feature removes its useful purpose. It simply becomes a way to add a new post to the thread.

WHy would it cause compatability issues? IE 6 just ignores PNG transparencies, it doesn't make the browser unable to render the image, AFAIK.

Isn't the point of Quick Reply to do just that...a quick reply. If you want more "advanced" editing features, you use the Reply option where all those functions are displayed.

In your model, are you saying the new AJAX "Reply" would also include all the advanced editing options and smilies inline on the page or something?

that's not a feature available in vb at the moment. and i'm not going to write one.

it changes colors at the moment. maybe i can make the icon more button like i suppose.

since that's not happening, quick reply is staying.

Sure, all of the advanced editing options available would be revealed via an Ajax call, loading the content into a previously empty/placeholder div tag

I realize that it would not be realistic nor desirable to patch vBulletin to do this, I just thought it would be interesting to critique the vBulletin interface.

I do notice that the icon turns red when flagged, but it's not clear that it will do so when you click it.
