I have been put in the position of doing a network between 3 to 5 computers that need to have file sharing. The organization is not for profit that got a few Macs donated. Because one of the Macs has extensive files of Filemaker in it, I do not want to re-initialize the drive to start fresh. Anyway, my question is can I change both name and password in a computer, without knowing the original password for the Network Identity info for File sharing?

Thanks,

X

Assuming the Mac is running Mac OS 9.x, yes. There's no sign-in process on the machine, so when you boot you're essentially logged in as the owner and you can change the username/account preferences.

Well, assuming it's not using AppleShare IP, then yes, you can just go to Users and Groups and change any users passwords.

If it's using Mac OS X, then you can boot from the Mac OS X CD and run the Password reset utility.

I don't know how to get around AppleShare IP's password.
