There is no difference. The buttons a backlit in red, however.

I bought a 30GB when they were released - it has a white backlight.
My friend just bought a 30GB - it has a blue backlight.
WTF?
Can't notice any other real visual differences as far as readability, but I think I like the blue better.

My new 10 GB iPod's backlight is white. The box it came in shows an iPod with a blueish backlight, so I have no idea.

Could it be that the environment makes the backlight look blue or white? Take your iPod along with your friend's into a dark room and compare them side by side. I'm guessing they'll look the same.

Guy @ an Apple reseller here in the Phoenix area says a lot of people come in asking for the black iPod they've seen on posters (also on one side of the iPod box). The backlight does look blue in some iPod marketing collateral.
I suppose the same people looking for a black iPod are the ones who a year or so ago were wondering why their new iMac didn't move its "head" to follow them around the room, like in the commercial.

Is Apple out to confuse everyone with these black iPod promo shots?
Oh, and my backlight is white (as I think all are).

My 15 gig is white, I don't really believe anyone who says it is blue.

then you're ignorant. both me and a friend have ipods. we held them side-by-side, and mine is blue, and hers is white. it's not a small difference. it is a HUGE difference. both 15giggers, i ordered mine a few days after they started shipping through apple, she ordered hers a week later through amazon.

Wish this had been an option. I'd prefer the blue backlight.

you think i'm lying? there's been a ton of debate over this, why don't you just look at some of those pictures of ipods people posted earlier, i'm sure there are some blue ones you can look at. as for taking the picture, even if that was possible (i won't be seeing her again until the end of summer) i wouldn't bother taking the time and trying to find a digital camera or developing real film, set up web space, et cetera, to prove a point that i know is true and others realize as well. they're different, plain as day. stop being stubborn.

There is a difference between my 5Gb and my friends 10Gb in how the backlight extinguishes. On mine it's *zack* and it's dark. On my friend's i slowly goes dark...
For the difference between blue and white, you could open the ipods to see who manufactured the screens.
