Hello,
Has anyone used Aladdin systems "spring cleaning" on their iMac? Is it good? Is it worth the money or is there anything else anyone can recommend?

I have gone back to IE after Netscape - I liked Netscape but it was driving me crazy because it was soooooooo sllllloooooow. Now IE is still driving me much crazier because it keeps telling me I haven't got enough memory! So I thought maybe Spring cleaning might do the trick... yes? no?!

YO!
Don't know what your OS is, I assume it's OS9.
Spring Cleaning is not a necessary application, as you can remove extensions, preferences, etc. that may be conflicting by dragging them to the trash. In my opinion, Spring Cleaning is not worth the money.
The out of memory problem you are having cannot be helped with Spring Cleaning. Buy as much physical memory as you can afford.
To add memory to any application, including Internet Explorer, 1-highlite the application, not an alias. 2-key apple-i. 3-in the "show" window, scroll down to "memory". 4-adjust the "minimum" and "preferred" sizes to twice or three times the "suggested" size. I have IE set to 60000k on my iMac.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Fredo I'll have a go at that. I had increased the memory once but not as high as 60000K so fingers crossed that will improve it.

How do you know which extensions, preference folders to remove though? I've done it for stuff I know I def. don't use anymore, ie. netscape and a couple of games that I had. Knowing my luck I'd go and remove a vital component and crash the whole system!!!!

Yeah, don't remove anything unless you are sure that you don't need it. Usually, if you add a new extension and start having problems, you can be pretty sure the new extension is the culprit. My gripe with Spring Cleaning is that it doesn't identify extension conflicts, and you already have ways to delete without buying something extra.
And, you can always get free help right here at the Forums.

IE ignores memory allocation because of the way it relies on its libraries et al.

Often IE uses over 500 megs for me.

Oh well. It's the best browser around...
